What was your favorite car of all the ones you owned?
Discussion
A buddy of mine picked a 2008 Acura TL last week, certified preowned. Very nice I must say too. Black with black leather, fully loaded with all the options available at the time. Options like heated seats, power everything, in dash 6 CD changer with a nice big touch screen in the middle complete with Navi, satellite radio, DVD player, rear camera, and iPod interface yada yada yada. And yes he did the right thing and got a 6 speed manual. None of this pansy tip tronic crap that is becoming sadly ever the norm these days.
I drove it and I was very surprised!! It is a lot quicker than I would thought. Especially in the higher range of the gears, this thing really moves!! Beautifull tight but light steering. One gripe however, the clutch on it seems to be an odd one indeed. A bit heavier than you would think, and to our dismay its one of those clutches that are either on or off. It made driving it the only unpleasantry of the experiemce. Lots of false starts, plenty of bogging, and it isn't me, he had the same trouble. Both of us could not roll of first gear smoothly, not once. A quick hop onto the TL enthusiasts forum and apparantly its a poor characteristic of the car that you never really get used to.
He mentioned however that out of the 6 cars he's owned thus far he is happiest with this one.
So it got me thinking about all the cars I've owned and which one I liked the most. Its not easy at all for me to narrow just one down, because each one had something I preferred over the other. I've owned 35 cars since I was 16 and if I had to choose my favorite I could only narrow it down to these;
2004 350Z
2003 G35 coupe
1992 Mustang LX 5.0 notchback
2009 BMW 335xi

Similar to me, although I was 26. Had it taken out to 155bhp which made it even less reliable, and reduced front tyres to slicks every 2,500 miles. On reflection my current Porsche is probably better, but you don't get the fear factor of driving something that is obviously made out of old biscuit tins and cheap plastic. Melvin- what year MR2 do you own?
GForceg- I love Corrados. I can also relate to the weekend warrior sense of occassion, I had the very same feeling when I owned my 350Z. It wasn't my daily driver, and it rarely if ever saw rain or snow. Only once or twice did I drive it in the rain, I just wanted to because, well, truth be told, I wanted to see how the car looked in the rain at night.
do you have any pics of your Corrado you can share?
Tedturbine-i hope to be able to same the very same thing one day!
Mike9009- Any piccies of the VX220? And about crashing my first car, thankfully NO! My first car was a 89 Mustang GT 5.0 but before that my brother who is 4yrs older had a 86 GT 5.0 and he crashed it within 6 months, in the rain and around a corner. His friends who also owned Mustangs, 5.0 of course, out of the 4 who owned them, 2 crashed them into a guard rail, again in the rain. Because of those stories, I always took extra precaution when driving my Mustang, more so in the rain. I can honestly say, knock on wood, that I have thankfully never crashed my 1st car or any sports car I've owned there after.
