How FIFA can allow a Swiss referee to manage a game involving a team that beat his own country in the same tournament a few days earlier is beyond belief.

The Italians were right, the tournament shows clear signs that it's being manipulated by the officials.

I think its all very well blaming the referee or blaming the loose turf under the penalty spot and I agree that both are valid points which may have cost us the game however, lets not forget that Sven and the players put themselves in that position.

They got a 1 goal lead and tried to defend it by hoofing the ball into the Portuguese half and then waiting for them to run it back it us. That's asking for trouble.

They tried this tactic against Argentina in the World cup and only just got away with it. They tried this tactic against the French the other day and lost the game. The Italians did the same and got knocked out. Watching the game last night was too much like watching the French game and I hope that our highly paid manager and players try a different tactic in the future.

Outplayed by the Portugese, which is a bit dissapointing but to be expected on the basis they had home advantage and arguably more technicaly gifted players......but......why was that goal disallowed??? Disgraceful.

Provide your assessment of the referee's performance on his own personal website www.ursmeier.ch/referee/ref60.html .....you know you want to......made me a feel a bit better.

We may not of played as well as previously, but we got the third goal fair and square, I cannot believe in this day of technology with all the millions that is spent on football that we still have to accept the final decision of a grocer from Zurich... penalty box incidents should be scrutinized as it is in televised cricket..and no it wouldnt constantly hold the game up, the game can continue and decision given as soon as.. just my two penneth..

Well, holding the game up for 15-20 seconds is no more than a normal foul. Video playback isn't used because of the dinosaur called FIFA. Referees are against it because they will be shown to be incompetent.

Why not have two referees per game, one in the first half and one in the second half. At least any bias will have the chance of being balanced out.

Whay no yellow or red cards for referees.....are they above the law of football completely??

foulsball??? shirley your mistaken. Rugby is THE game.

never hear of complaints that a rugby pitch is a bit soft/bumpy, or if a players down - he usually is hurt- they dont have long greasy hair either.
oh yes and we did do rather well at it.
