Why not 88, it's gotta happen at one speed or another & if it happened at 62 you'd be asking, why does time travle happen at 62?

Is it because in the film The Big Bus, about the first nuclear bus, they were only breaking wind at 80?

A DeLorean travelling at 88mph vibrates at the same frequency as the time flux continuum. This harmonic generates enough energy for it to split the continuum thereby enabling what we know as time travel.

Um, I don't think he was after the obvious answer that we all clearly know.

Sorry: tongue out

The less obvious answer has something to do with out of date marmalade.
(How can a grown man never have tried marmalade!)

The actual answer is just that they thought it sounded/looked cool.

its because 88 looks like infinity tured upwards. and time travel suggests that it would be a 2 way trip ie you travel there and back hence infinity infinity or 88

88mph is about 0.000001au (I think thats the right number of zero's)

I should have known better that to expect a sensible response from you lot...

hehe

So, the isn't a reason for it then, they just decided 88mph.

A speed is the same as a distance ?

OP - this may come as a shock but films aren't always real and time travel may not have happened yet. Even if it has, the Enterprise has to go a lot faster than 88mph to achieve it.

If back to the future is not real then how do you think Chuck Berry came up with his "fresh new sound"?
