Driving next Saturday from Bristol to London-Tower Bridge, whilst I rarely have traffic congestion problems driving along the embankment to Tower Bridge, however the return route on Sunday is usually a complete nightmare of a journey.

What is a quicker alternative route, with much less traffic congestion, thereby avoiding the embankment, thanks.

A3 through Kennington/Clapham?

Mind you, not the quietest of roads...

Thanks for the replies, whilst have traveled both routes many years ago, will give them both another try, surely can’t be no worse than leaving London on a Sunday via the embankment.

If you haven't driven in London recently, be aware there are cameras EVERYWHERE. Speed, red light, box junction, accidentally paused too long on a yellow or god-forbid red double lines...

This.

When you are on the A40 watch for signs to the A312 which will also be signed to Heathrow. That will get you across to the M4...should be okay for traffic and avoids the lottery that is the M25 on a Sunday afternoon.
