I,ve been noticing a golden tinge to my rear x-member over the last couple of weeks.

Now it isn't as if its particularly Old, 2007 isn't really that much past its first MOT!

So today I decided to investigate further in the sunshine. After about 30 seconds rubbing with 600 grade wet and dry I was through the micron of overspray that Landrover call chassis protection!!

just a faint dusting of matt black, no primer, nothing before I was through to shiny metal..

The enclosed photos are before and then after a rub down, 2 coats of etch, 1 primer and a couple of Satin black to finish off.

Landrover. so tough they don't even need paint!!

Winters just around the corner. it may be time to have a look at your new product before the salt hits the roads!!!

Nice job.

The chassis protection is terrible on 'Puma' Defenders. The first one I had,an 07 90XS,I sold as soon as rust started appearing at 18 months old.

Ive had my SVX for just over 2 years now.I bought it brand new and rarely use it in wet/wintry conditions because once rust starts appearing I know Ill have to get rid.Kind of defeats the object of owning a Defender!

Great job. Now, what about inside the box section?
Mine's a little older and has just started breaking through from the inside out.

Thats all sorted. The underside, inside chassis, bulkhead and everywhere else has been fully waxoyled at the Waxworks in Morpeth.

I thoroughly recommend Simon and his work which in my view is second to non.

very good price and 3 years free top ups and inspections

This was the last bit for me to do, I was truly amazed however that not even primer had been applied to the chassis, the black paint didn't even look to be electrophoretically applied...Truly 1940's technology for which landrover should be thoroughly ashamed!!

Par for the course with the L/Rover product, at 9 months my 2010 Puma looked worse than yours.

The only way to stop it is to galvanise the chassis.I could quite easily afford to buy a new one but too many electronics and non galvanised parts means I would rather "build my own",presently rebuilding a 6x6 Sandringham with 300tdi power and a hiab crane,oh and every bracket, brake back plate, chassis bulkhead and even the fuel tank has been galvanised.

not doing the axles then ....and you might as well fit stainless pistons to the calipers at the same time !

Great job. I have sold loads of Puma Defenders and as a matter of prep tend to get them undercoated and the rear cross member painted to prevent unsightly rust.

I also swapped over all the bolts on mine to prevent them rusting for stainless steel ones.

I can see some of yours are starting to go already, I endded up doing nearly every bolt on my 52 plate TD5.....link below to the shop:

cheers for that. I'd thought of running it over the winter then switching over to Stainless bolts in the spring and was looking for a supplier of landy kits. This ones a keeper, nearly weakened for a Cayenne but will put the winch back on now for winter.

With that number plate, what did you expect? Did the 'T' fall of end as a result of early onset tin worm?
