I've watched this a couple of times now, pretty sure it's in the uk, after 35 seconds see what happens. Something pops up at the red light. Is this for real??? Or is it cgi? The way the car lands looks fake. I don't get it. What sort of weird-ass junction is this!

Not sure its a car?

It looks to me like the lights had just started flashing, and then a bollard of some sort raises from the ground as a barrier.

Lack of attention from the driver.

Don't think it's in the UK (driving on the other side of the road). Anyway it was an automatic bollard, and we do have them here in the UK; usually in bus zones, cordened-off or pedestrianized areas. There's a clip of someone's Cayene getting mullered by one that did the rounds a few years ago.

ETA here it is

You've not noticed that they're driving on the opposite side of the road to the UK then?

There's a road sign preceding the lights that looks like it has some sort of springboard thing on it.

Well, this is embarrassing. I failed to notice the wrong side of the road issue lol. In my defence, I've had a few Sunday beers today.

I worked for a company that had a similar bollard halfway along the private road that ran towards the main building. There was a guardhouse at the entrance, and the road itself was lined with trees and bushes.

A colleague was driving along the road at around 20mph when the bollard jumped up and stopped her car in an instant. She was a complete mess. She had broken ribs, pelvis, wrists and horrendous bruising and I don't think she ever drove again due to fear.

The reason the bollard flipped up was because a security guard, for some random reason, decided to test it and thought that she would have been well past it.

I left the company before she returned to work and have no idea what kind of payout she got.

I still get twitchy when going over them.

It's clearly the Netherlands and those bollards which appear to be placed on any logical route from A>B in that country are why I use a motorcycle whenever possible there.

Ouch. They do look massively violent in their action, well over the top IMHO!

It wasn't all bad...she did drive a neon-pink fatboy Suzuki Vitara soft top.

The ones in the UK are to stop people using bus lanes. The one in Holland looks like it's to stop two way traffic down a single carriage way (or stupid over the top traffic calming crap that is only a matter of time before they introduce it here).

Would you rather hit a post or a car head on?

Live by your choices if you're going run a red light.

We had some in the bus lane outside our uni and I do recall two lads tried to run in Daddies Merc and managed to write it off. To compound their mistake they then decided it would be a good idea to try and sue the uni over it just to make sure that everyone knew what a pair of dicks they'd been.

A van hit a bollard, and its bumper fell off.
