Anything I should be aware of before I get the exhaust replaced on my Taimar? I've been recommended to go to Hayward and Scott in Basildon Essex (which is convenient for me) who produced their own s/s exhaust sytems. No prices know at the moment as they've asked to see the car first and then they'll quote.

Depends where its gone but if you look underneath the car other than the downpipes you will see two straight pipes going to the back boxes, so not that complicated.

That's not standard.
The downpipes join to two s-shaped pipes which feed into a main silencer. There are two outlets from this which join to the two small back boxes. The twin tail pipes exit from the back boxes. Not that complicated, but not as simple as above.

The system would be VERY loud without the main box.

Paul.

My mistake, this could be why mine sounds so good!

Mine was done by a company near Manchester - I think it was Macclesfield. They used to advertise in Sprint.
It was about 10 years ago and from memory it was around £500 fitted (including manifolds) It was guaranteed for as long as I kept the car which seemed good value.
E-mail me if you want the address and I'll try and dig out the receipt. I don't post in here normally but picked it up via Teds email.
PS It is still on the car now with no problems.

Quite often its at the front of the main silencer (or the lower surface of the silencer) where it gets grounded a lot!

Easy fix, just get it welded up or the silencer resleeved (or part resleeved). When you refit to car turn silencer upside down, now all the dents and the scruffy surface are on the top out of harms way. You now have another half box to damage!!!

JP Exhausts are the guys in Maccesfield, also Tube Torque on same industrial estate. One of these companies used to supply Tom and Jerry, don't know if they still do.

It's been a good few years now, but I seem to remember that the rear boxes rusted out fairly frequently. I remember complaining to the factory that one set lasted well under a year. Needless to say, I was wasting my time.

Blimey, they are pretty loud as standard.

How's your hearing?

Pardon?
