New Engine for RR Vogue
Discussion
My 2006 RR Vogue 3.8 broke down last week and was taken into an Independant RR garage, Upon getting all the fault readings info they contacted Landrover who suggested replacing the engine which came as a bit of a shock.
The car has only done 77,000 miles which although of course well out of manufacturers warrenty I think is pretty poor all in all !
No questions but if anybody would like to comment I would be interested.

What engine is a 3.8??
Personally I'd speak to LR directly, if they are advising a new engine ask them why and are they willing to contribute as a show of good will.
I'd also want to know what is wrong with, how much it would cost to fix it and how much to source a used engine and swap it over.
Just because "someone" is advising it needs replacing, doesn't actually mean it's the only or best option.

If I were you I'd quote the sales of goods act
14 Implied terms about quality or fitness.
(2A)For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.
I’ve used the above a few times and said that it cannot be satisfactory quality if the engine were to deteriorate by this age. Just get the specialist to write its not satisfactory quality for it to detiorate by this age.
Worth a try?

To be able to go down that route you would have to prove the fault was there when the engine was manufactured, anything outside of manu warranty the onus is on you to prove it was faulty at manufacture.14 Implied terms about quality or fitness.

I'll second what 300 has to say there and add what was the diagnosis?Personally I'd speak to LR directly, if they are advising a new engine ask them why and are they willing to contribute as a show of good will.
