ever been to Ashby folville?

if you have then have a look at this link...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/personalisednumberpla...
found my own and also some friends are on there too and Im not sure I'm happy about it.
Whats the legality of it?
My O/H says that as its a public meet and I knew people were taking photos I cant ask them to remove them as I was aware the car would be photographed.
Also if you google "the plate market" it links to a personalised plate seller and a few friends are asking why they would be linking to our cars and plates..
not sure I like the idea they're saying how plates are miss spaced and pointing out plates that appear to be in some way illegal

Ashby Folville - I've displayed at three of the events this year, very enjoyable, the beer could be better...
I've only viewed the flickr page which just looks like a collection of pictures by somebody who has an interest in number plates.
If your really not happy about the picture of your Puma then at best you can politely ask for it to be removed. Ultimately it will be his choice.
Honestly though fella, you had your car on display at a public event, you have to roll with the public domain afterwards.

He has take lots of images, and always comments on the numberplates.
Obviosuly he has a business associated with humberplates, but he is probably a numberplate enthusiast who takes images of things that interest him
I wouldnt worry about it unless he advertises your plate as one which he can sell, etc

yeh i know what you mean about being a public place, the main reason for my initial concern was that a few were been shown as ilegal plates, be it through spacing/font/size etc etc.
i didnt buy my plate through them and couldnt work out why they would have a flikr page full of number plates... seems an odd thing if there not plates that the company has sold.
ah well, no harm done i suppose.

Hi everyone
This post was forwarded to me, as the flickr photos referred to were posted by me.
I have attended the Ashby Folville event many times over the past few years, and I am very interested in the private number plates as well as the cars. I am the Director at The Plate Market, and am always interested in how people choose their number plates. Some are very imaginative, and it gives us insight into helping our customers with ideas.
The photos on flickr are from a genuine interest in private number plates, and for no other purpose.
These registration numbers are NOT advertised on our website, and we don't have any information about the owner.
All photos are taken when the cars are on display at a show, or in some cases on streets and public roads. And are taken purely from a personal interest point of view. You will find many 100's more in the flickr group http://www.flickr.com/groups/personalisednumberpla... - these have been posted by numerous other enthusiasts all over the UK.
However, if any of the photos have caused concern, please PM me and I will look into having it removed.
regards
Ms Kiran John

Pistonheads doesn't even have a PM facility.
Click on the user ID on the left, on the profile page at right there is an option to "Email Me", SO PH does have a PM facility. So by your reckoning I should not have put up any pictures from the last Pistonheads Sunday Service at Silverstone without the permission of all involved?

The Ashby Folville pictures were taken on private land, namely the cricket pitch, not on the public highway. Are you aware of the legalities of this ?theplatemarket said:

This isn't on, you should ask permission in the first place, not rely on someone finding it on the internet and tracking you down to request you remove it. Pistonheads doesn't even have a PM facility. Do the right thing, Kiran John, remove all plate details from AF pictures unless you've specifically got the owners permission. Ta.

I don't see what harm it's doing on a reg plate spotters album.

PM and Email are different things.
Could you elaborate on the difference between personal mail and email? It is a bit of a stretch, but I suppose that the use of the tags on flickr could be used to search for a suitable car "victim" for cloning. That covers all flickr contributors who have bothered to complete tags, not just this chap. Clearly all photo hosting websites must be closed forthwith.
Paranoid nonsense in my view.

I agree. The person in question isnt profiteering from this, its his hobby. And he has turned his hobby into his job (lucky man....)People take pictures of cars all the time, for all sorts of reasons. I take pictures of cars because I like the look of them. So there
It doesn't bother you, yet you wrote;

its not something that "bothered me" i was just wondering the reason behind having the pictures in a flikr album, if they were ones that the company had sold then i could understand it, but if its a hobby then it isnt doing any harm so im not fussed... there plenty of pics of my car on the internet with the reg plate in view, ive also got 1000's of images on my laptop from various car shows.
either way its not doing any harm, the only way it would of been a concern to me is if the plates were being uploaded then shown as being illegal number plates.

OP, if you choose to illegally space or size a number plate (and if the picture in your profile is as your car currently is plated, then you have chosen to illegally space yours) then an ANPR camera or a real life plod are what you should be concerned about, rather than the pictures and opinions of keyboard warriors out in cyberspace - myself included.
