Hi all,

I am looking to buy 2 x cheap motor bikes in HCMC, the old Siagon.

I am thinking of up to max 125 cc, manual or auto, makes no difference.
Will be flogging them again after the 2 weeks, or so, that it takes us to get north to Hanoi.

Where in HCMC can I buy 2 x bikes for cash,,,

Have a look on www.couchsurfing.com in the Saigon group.

Get on the lonely planet thorntree message board to see if any riders who have just arrived from Hanoi are selling up.

There's also Chi's cafe near Pham Ngu Lao that has a notice board with bikes for sale on it.

OK there is two ways of doing it:

Option 1; Come over to Vietnam with the intention of buying a bike, riding your dream route then getting to the final destination and selling the bike on, fly home...everyone happy.

Option 2; Come over to Vietnam, rent a bike, ride the dream route then getting to the final destination and returning bike to the renters agent, fly home....everyone happy.

Easy......??????

Option 1, You may need two or three days to get this organised to find the cafes who advertise them, then contacting the owner, making the deal, lots of things to go wrong, potentially, with this one, will two decent bikes be available, will they be within the budget allowed, will they survive the trip, will you be able to sell them on at the end of the trip, do you have enough time to hang around to sell them on......However this option will more than likely turn out to be the much cheaper option as long as the bike holds out on the journey and doesn't fall to bits.

Option 2 is the safest bet however this is going to cost but you have the peace of mind that you just pick the bike up get on it at the start of your trip and at the end they will collect it and let you go on your merry way.

Anyway as Shay HTFC mentioned get down to Pham Ngu Lao (Back-packer area) in Saigon there are loads of cafes that advertise secondhand bikes down there, that is the best place to go to find one but give yourself a couple of days to get one/two.

If you want to rent one, this guy does it, he also supplied the Top Gear team when they did there little jolly over here a couple of years ago and has inspired so many others to do it.

Hope it works out for you.
