Had this appear at the weekend and it looks like we need a new turbo! Mechanic says the oil supply pipe may be blocked and the turbo has seized as a result.

Looking at cira £600 at mates rates. BMW want £1340 just to buy a replacement turbo. I'll be ringing round to get the best recon prices.

Can anyone advise of a good place to either fix my turbo or buy another off the shelf.

I feel sick about this as its not something you expect to have to pay out for.

Anyone had similar?

Thanks for reading.

Evolve are probably one of the companies you should speak to, turbo might be re-buildable.

Look on mini torque or nam forums, you are not the only one, these turbos do go pop quite frequently it seems

I ended up sending it to a place in Wakefield who have been brilliant. Top notch service from AET Turbos. They were unable to fix my turbo as it was that badly damaged and would have cost more than the cost of a new one.

What they did have is a reconditioned one which has cost £524.40 compared to quotes of over £1000 for a new one.

The mechanic has cost £250 which includes a £43 pipe from BMW, oil, filter and lots of cleaning! Should have it back either Wednesday or Thursday.

A week without a car has been HELL!!

Weird in that when I took my car for an MOT, they had a mini with a blown turbo in and were waiting a replacement. Apparently they are on the shelf as 'stock' at the mini warehouse as a common failure. Thats not sounding good to me.
