I have a Sony Bravia tv with a wi-fi dongle. Have been keen to set up an av system in that room so that I can stream music from my iPad.

So, plan is to buy an av amp. Seems I have 2 options:
1) a Denon av1912 (or something else with AirPlay). Clearly this will give me ability to stream music through my speakers ( not tv) + give access to Internet radio. Price c.350 plus new set of speakers. ( imagine I can't ply films through AirPlay only music??)

Or

2) a Sony 820 + apple tv. Same price as Denon. Can watch films over it. Also can play music through tv speakers (yes realise this is not aurally ideal!) so all in probably cheaper.

What would you recommend?? Does the Bravia dongle negate the benefits of apple tv over AirPlay??

Thanks in advance!

I don't know the answer, but I wouldn't have thought so. In my experience, being able to hook a TV up to a router only really gives the ability for the TV to connect to your router so that the TV's interface with all the online content (iPlayer, Twitter, Movies on Demand etc) will work. As far as I know, it doesn't allow it to talk with other devices for streaming purpose, it purely allows you TV to connect to online services.

My preferred option for doing this stuff would be using NAS (Network Attached Storage....A big storage disk to put photo's, films and music on) and a media streamer to get the contents of the big storage disk to where you want it to go, Amp etc.

Not sure of the spec of your TV, but if it does DLNA and you have a central repository then that'll do streaming of content.

Thanks - will investigate the NAS route and see what the Bravia can connect to

If you can stretch the budget this should be very good keep thinking of getting one myself. Money off as no dab radio but it can be networked so surely internet radio can be received by it.
