I am on the hunt for a new car and, inexplicably, Mk. 3 Capris have come under my radar.

I'm not particularly up to speed with these cars, so can anyone tell me:

  • just how asthmatic are the 4 cylinders and how thirsty are the V6's?
  • can they be run on a shoestring student budget? Provided I find a reasonably solid one, I'm not worried about it looking a bit.....shabby. (adds to the whole image hehe)
  • how effective are they as daily drivers? Only the Parental High Court will need to be convinced that it is indeed a sensible and practical investment. (Plus, once it's bought, I'll have to keep it for a while - I can't afford to chop cars every fart's end anymore.)
I really want to be convinced, as I love the whole idea of being the young rakish lad about town in my "sports coupe", moistening the gussets of ladies the land over. Help convince me biggrin

Never driven a 4pot myself, but not sure Id like it without the low down power of a v6.
My 'warm' 3litre does about 18mpg around town, about 25 cruising. A 2.8i will be a bit better.
I use mine occasionally as a daily drive and its fine. Keeps up with modern traffic no problems and makes commuting more fun! Gets lots of attention and positive comments at the petrol station!
Obviously check sills, arches and strut tops for rot and be prepared to get your hands dirty occasionally smile
