What track day car for about £6K???

Imprezas are good fun on track but are pricy for tyres and brakes. Also be careful of the engines as I have seen a few with rods letting go on track. If the reliability was there they are a good bet. However, if I was buying something for around £6k I would be looking at Honda integras or a really sorted e36 m3.

I agree with the comments about a westfield, as had an MK Indy with an R1 motorbike engine in before for track days and that was good fun but a bit 'raw' !
Also thought of the VX220 and been in a supercharged one and was very impressed so that is an option, of buying a 2.2 NA and then supercharging it at some stage.
The wife is not too keen on another westfield etc as the one I had before did not have a windscreen etc

Re the S2000 suggestion above, they are fantastic cars and I miss mine, but there isn't much obvious weight to be lost, and a roll bar or cage are both VERY expensive, as are suitable seats, so if you wanted those sort of things they will bump your budget right up.
What about a balls out version? Carpets out
Dash Out
No Heaters/Aircon
No power steering
No Roof
No windows/Motors
Light weight seats
Single skin Boot/Bonnet on pins

i would think about what where and when you are going to use it, like just for track days, and if so are you going to drive it to and from or a trailer and if so what tow car do you have, if yes to all then a seven type kit good fun for money and light enought to tow with a small car, but down side would be if you are going to drive it to and from would you want to do it in a Seven on a wet day? this also depends on how local the tracks are to you.
I personally would not go down the turbo 4WD route while make lots of power and fast down straights not the quickest round bends and may find a sorted £1k saxo or clio pushing you hard round twisty bits unless maybe soaking wet.
I prefer something that looks less fast but supprises people.
Finally another thing to considder when you say you want to spend £6k on a track day last one i done at Snetterton 13th Nov a car through a crank rod, the following every day daily drive clio hit the oil and head on into the armco one written off car and no way to get to work, whilst its rare it does happen

I got a 300bhp fully sorted 180sx with coilovers, locking diff, good brakes + hundreds of little tweaks etc for £5500 (plenty of good ones out there for less). It is the most entertaining car I've ever owned, use it as a daily in summer, and made my old exige s feel tame... as well as lapping a sprint track quicker! Not everyones cup of tea, but smiles per pound it's brilliant.
