Hi,

I thought this would be a good idea for a thread. It was inspired by a local trip to Ocean Bay in Swanage, as I felt the need to tell people just how good it was! Wesbite here: http://www.oceanbayswanage.com/

I'll let my girlfriend's review do the talking: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g1862... (username "bunty197"), but I was really impressed by the food, service and the view.

It really did top off a perfect day for me. Sunshine, roof down on the car and a whole day of driving around the coast. We had lunch here and then drove off to follow the steam railway to Corfe Castle, just in time to meet the steam train arrive at the station.

Another restaurant I'd highly recommend is The Jetty in Mudeford. http://www.rhodes-south.co.uk/ We went there for my girlfriend's birthday and the food and service was first class, completely faultless. It's a must visit! http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g1908... both my girlfriend and I left reviews (danyeates and bunty197)

In my opinion it's worth taking the time out to visit these. Some nice roads for a drive in Swanage too.

Let's here yours.

Dan

Had a read through the rest of the reviews for Ocean Bay. It's probably worth noting we had lunch there at about 14:30 and it was pretty busy. From looking at some of the poor reviews, it sounds like they may get a bit overwhelmed during peak times, but service was great when we went.

The Roedean Cafe in Brighton overlooking the Marina.
Big car park, amazing views, and the best breakfasts for miles !
Oh, and a pitch and putt course at the back.

I've eaten in the Scullery at the LimeWood Hotel in Lyndhurst a couple of times, great food, amazing venue and not too badly priced, there's usually a nice bit of metal in the car park too. Would certainly recommend.

For more of a pub type lunch we always end up back at The Olive Branch in Wimborne, big enough to take the push chair in and the service is spot on.

The Southampton Arms in West End/Hedge End. It's only a little local pub but I went for a wander there with the wife a couple of weeks back and had the most amazing meal I have eaten for a long time (and I eat A LOT!). Had some homemade kind of beef curry thing that wasn't actually curry (if you know what I mean!), but it was immense. The wife had a Ceasar Salad that turned up with 2 perfectly cooked chicken breasts and the best tasting Ceasar sauce I've ever had. All for about £20 including 2 pints each.

One to avoid IMO is Banana Wharf in Hamble. Went there and had chicken starter and chicken with the main. Both red raw - I don't mean slightly underdone, I mean hadn't been cooked at all! The starters for a group of 6 of us took 45 minutes to come out and were miniscule and tasteless. The manager gave us a shrug and said along the lines of 'it's a sunday afternoon, what do you expect'!

Banana Wharf is crap from what i remember.
On thursday and Friday nights it was full of poncy idiots, and the rest of the time the staff just mope around pretending to be busy.

If you're in Southampton, try Zen ( if it's still there ).
Japaneese fusion style. the food, decore, and staff are all excellent!

Lone Barn in Lowford/Hungerford Bottom
Antonio's in West St, Fareham
Verandah in Wickham for a ruby (keep walking straight past Kuti's, pants IMHO)
Poppadum Express (also curry) in Oxford St, Southampton.
Fire and Stone pizza in Gunwharf

That'll do for now...
