1987 350i throttle cable
Discussion
Hi Tony
Mine went a while back on my 400 - I was told you cant source another one as there are no more left - Was given advice that you can use a Griff/Chim one and bodge it to fit by bending the accelerator pedal !!!
(or something like that) - Anyhow I was lucky as my local specialist (Offords) happen to have found an old one.
You can also try Speedcables www.speedycables.com - I think they will make you one up if you give them your old one.
Good Luck

Can't help with the cable, but if anyone ever needs an accelerator pedal assembly for a rover engined car then I have one lying round here.
Was told by the factory they couldn't make me a new 280 one and I'd have to send in my broken bits so they could try to copy it, but it'd take ages. In the hunt for a replacement a scrap yard said they had a 280 one, but when it arrived it had the rover attachment. I ended up getting a local fabrication place to patch mine up.

Just replaced mine with a bicycle brake cable inner.
A couple of tips -
a--) put the pedal end retaining clip over the inner first
a) if you fit from the pedal end (as I did) then take the
sleeve nipple out of the bulkhead, this makes it very
easy to thread in the new inner while standing up
instead of upside down in the dark footwell.
b) don't try pulling the end off the sleeve - you'll damage it!
c) whack some moly grease on the inner before pulling it through.
d) the free end can be clamped with a standard bike brake cable bolt with a hole + nut + a few washers, once adjusted for length at the engine/cam end.

another pplace to try is Venhill in Dorking. They made me up some clutch cables using my broken one as a pattern. Reasonable price too. www.venhill.co.uk

Watch it with this. Modern cables tend to have nylon liners to help the cable move smoothly; certain greases and oils cause the nylon to swell, grabbing the inner and rendering the cable useless.
A mate found this out the hard way when he oiled the throttle cable of his motorbike and it jammed at 80mph...

Agree with your logic Adam.
Did the same a couple of years ago, and it is still going strong. Re-used the outer.
Asked once a price (Continental) for original replacement, and nearly had a stroke. So will keep my cheap 'special', and a spare cable in the boot - just in case the TVR-gremlin rears it head on an outing.

I have had problems with cables too, but not throttle.
I have just replced the out cable for the heater valve. I used a outer cable supplied from the local bike shop for £2. Teflon lined too.
I have also made and replaced the Gear release cable on my auto shift stick. This was more tricky. Speedy cables said they could make me one but i would have to provide all the damaged parts (i dident have them).
I would personally look at the bike cable option.
