Mondeo Tdci

hi everyone
just getting back into cars after some time out
i had a friend ask me if i could change his fuel pump on his 55 plate mondeo tdci
i asked if he was sure it was the pump because i know these have problems with injectors
he said the injectors had been done and there was no presure from the pump,the engine ran but would not rev.
today i fitted the pump with no problems with the propper tool
the car took a while to start as expected. when it started it sounded ruff asif it was running on 3
it drove so i thought the problem with pump was fixed and maybe and injector was not coded not working
then the car cut out and would not start again.
i wanted to know does the pump need coded ? as a friend said it would and he could do it for £80
or does anyone know if something else could give me this trouble ?
