Getting the wife a newer car as she has a need for Automatic due to health reasons.

Currently has a 57 plate 206.

Cars she has said she likes are:

Ford Fiesta
VW Polo
Merc A180

So we have 3 good quality manufacturers, and I am tempted to say the Polo, but wondered if the Merc was a good/bad car?

Couldn't go for the Fiesta? I think I always like Fords if I'm not looking for something special. I'm not massively impressed by German cars when it comes to this sort of thing. Inevitably things go wrong. I'd prefer to pay Ford prices for parts and they are easier to service.

Yeah, the Fiesta is an option like, but not sure the Automatic is any good.

Ford usually have pretty decent autoboxes but fuel economy in the automatic Fiesta is ordinary at best.

I would personally go for the Merc. I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying it but if you're looking for an auto i think it's the best choice. Also very easy to get in and out of compared to the other 2 (assuming this might be valid). Running costs are likely to be higher though.

CRV makes sense as again a higher driving position making life easier and I'm sure you would find a few auto's around. The rest... Not sure.

Yeah, the CRV is huge though, not what she wants, so I am still drawn back to the Merc, seen a nice A150 Auto, as it is higher off the ground but not too big.

Polo GTI has DSG, so that.
