Popped in to Fernies today
Discussion
As I do from time to time.
No bloody free coffee either which some of you guys seem to get. Thanks Simon.
Looking to add to the Chim. Fancy a Tuscan or a Cerb
Loads of pros and cons here.A good Cerb costs as much and more than some Tuscans. What worries me is the poor reliability of the early Tuscans, the dogs nuts they may be but having my well earnt quids stuck up in Blackpool for a engine rebuild would be a little irksome not to mention the warranty issues as who is going to pay.
So who has moved upward and onward and are you happy with your new PandJ and more to the point how much should I be prepared to fork out for either beast.

that bunch! Hi Guys
You little lurkers you
GET THAT COFFEE MACHINE FIXED! I'll be up in a few weeks. OH
Whatever you decide you'll get an honest and positive opinion to assist you to decide.
I'm sure they will advise you regarding Tuscans is to get one as recent a possible. 03 if you can span to that.
Cerbies? well ASAIK the AJP is a pretty well sorted engine now, so it's just down to colour choice.
Happy hunting.
Shame about the coffee though, must be down to a local water shortage!

Hey Big Al, I guess poor old Brian has given up all hope of a date with me! Just as well really, I think I'm going to leave Trev as he is...why tamper with something that is soo perfect in the first place?
That is, apart from afterburners or 'upgrades'...nearly a year on and I still haven't decided what to do for the best
Oh, that and clear indicators to replace the orange ones. Anyway...mum's the word about the new toy, Big Al
Risky post I know, but here goes.....
Bar one (T350), every TVR I owner I know who's had an untimely meeting with wall/dog/lampost/tree/armco (delete as applicable) has been in a Tuscan.
Chatting to a few owners at the Castle Combe trackday, the general opinion seemed to be the Chims are more forgiving - they tell you when you've got to the limit and give you a chance to get it back. With the Tusc, one warning, and you're roadkill.
I have to say it's made me think twice about upgrading to a Tusc, despite the Wife and I always wanting one......

What you need is a local dealer thats gonna treat you with some respect!
Very cheeky!
I can recommend the coffee at both Fernies and Adrian Blyths.
The Coffee at Fernies is ultra fast from their machine and efficeintly repeatable. Served in not just a plastic cup but a holder for it as well.
AB's coffee is carefully hand made and served in a personally selected china mug.
I have heard excellent recommendations of the other services both can offer but have yet to try them!
Being that they are only 10 minutes apart is excellent too. (Especially if you like coffee!).

You just need to learn to drive properly.
Tuscans are a TOTALLY different drive, for the very reason they were designed that way rather than a replacement.
Personally I'd go for a T350 as the chassis is shorter and more fun on the road. The tuscan really comes to life on the track.

I have never driven a chim, so only asking opinion, but could it be that the limits on a Tuscan are a lot higher so once you do go over them you are in trouble. I would also add that an early Tuscan on standard suspension can be a bit scary. Fit Nitrons though and it is a very different animal.

It's probably more about warning and predictability than the actual point.
As side load goes on to a tyre it will start to move sideways. At first this won't affect the grip but there comes a point when the more loaded (outside of bend) sidewall starts to fold under and it starts being loaded. This takes some of the load of the main tread. A similar thing happens on the less loaded side where the side wall can start to pull the tread off the road.
At some stage the tyres grip will drop below the level needed to stop the tyre slipping. Then the fun starts.
Some tyres are quite gentle and progressive in the way they do this. This means the maxium side grip is reduced by using softer more deformable side walls. Toyo have often made a point of this. Stiffer and narrower (ie low profile tyres) tend to go more suddenly.
Tyres can have a major effect on the on-limit/over-limit behaviour of a car.
I started learning about this when club racing with my cousin. We had to cut 2" from the car's rear undertray to allow for the side to side movement of our Avon slicks!
