Surprised nobody's posted about this. Or some idiot's posted something so obscurely titled like "Squirrels do it in trees" and it's about Peter Tatchell and his economic ideas.

Anyway, enjoy the blood pressure rise.

So QE every couple of years to sustain the banks and a 20% tax on the rich every ten years to sustain the public sector, will either solve the problems?

Why can't they just have a land value tax and redistribute all that property wealth into sustainable jobs and affordable homes?

Close, I think it entails truly shafting the British economy through taxation.

Also it's from Tatchell. He's not fond of 'em after all.

I'm not sure why I should trust a socialist gay rights campaigner to run the economy but...

...it is this kind of bold action that's needed to fix the country. Carrying on, as is, won't change anything. I doubt this plan would work, the super rich would just hide the money.

However, what's the point in paying off all the debts if the debts are going to be mounted up again. We need to overhaul the public sector massively to boot.

To be honest, it's probaby because;

a) It didn't make much of an impact in the media because most people in the media recognise Thatchell for what he is.

b) It didn't get mentioned here because most people on PH recognise Thatchell for what he is.

Why is it that all sorts of people, from all sorts of backgrounds, seem to think that the public will be interested in their worthless and uneducated opinion about how to solve the financial crisis?

Thatchell would do far better by concentrating on doing what he's good at, whatever that is...

This is no more logical than me taking out a "one off" loan to pay off my credit card. In a few years, I'll have run up a load more debt on it. Similarly mouth breathing politicos will fk up the economy and spunk billions on bullst again and again.

Me too. Turning all the long term unemployed into sex industry workers with the state as the pimp is just one of them. Some of my other ideas might not work though. frown

Greg Philo. I stopped reading after that. Every couple of months some new rent-a-hob celeb type regurgitates this so called academic's snake oil.

The guy either does not understand what 'wealth' is and why it exists, or else he hopes no one else does and will unquestioningly accept his lies.

IIRC this joker was on newsnight a year or so ago, and was humilated by a Paxman grilling. First he said something along the lines of council workers would barge into everyones homes to appraise the value of their jewellry and so forth.

After admitteding that was unrealistic, he said the taxes could be payable on the holders death -obviously another govt would be around to write it off by then, but even if they didnt, thats just opening a new debt account and shifting the debt somewhere else, if cash isnt being raised.

He lives in cloud cuckoo land.
