Rear calliper removal
Discussion
I'm struggling to remove a seized rear calliper from my SEAC.
I've followed Steve H's instructions from his Wedge manual and have got the calliper unbolted but really can't see how to get it out. It's blocked by either the chassis or fuel tank.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Firstly a big welcome
. Is your car the Saudi Arabia plated black LHD 420 SEAC featured in Road and Track Specials June 1989 ( as featured in Brooklands Books)?
Very nice
I don't have an answer to your question. Not had to have a rear caliper removal done on my SEAC (yet!). It was done on my previous 350 and that was straight forward, but work carried out by TVR specialist not me!
The rear floor plan is a different design on the SEAC and that might make matters more tricky.
Hope you get it sorted. May be some of the other SEAC owners can advise you. Put a post out with SEAC in the title to grab their attention

No, mine isn't the one featured in that article. That one was the only other LHD SEAC that I know of and it didn't survive. In fact when mine was re-imported there were a lot of problems convincing the factory that mine wasn't that one - they wanted nothing to do with mine (causing problems with the DVLA) until finally they realised they had built a 2nd LHD SEAC for the Middle East.

I had removed the handbrake but there just doesn't seem space to get the calliper even clear of the disc, let alone out through the chassis. Either the diagon chassis tube running to the top of the shock absorber or the fuel tank seem to block progress.
The only 2 choices I can see are removing the half shaft and taking the disc off or splitting the 2 castings that make up the calliper by removing the 4 bolts that hold it together...

Slightly radical approach, but having removed my calipers etc the hard way by laying on my back under the car, then two years later having to remove the diff assembly in it's cradle, i would opt for dropping the entire diff/axle assembly as it is just as quick and easy to do and you then have unlimited access to all the bits.
Good luck,
Mick
Good luck,

MartinP - A big welcome there are quite a few of us SEAC owners on here.
Sounds like you have tacked of of the hardest jobs there is .. I had my rear calipers done down at peninsular last year - and the mechanic said it was a complete b*****d to remove them - much tighter than any other wedge due to the lack of space - he lost plenty of skin off his knuckles doing that one.
I would recommend you give them a call and ask how it's done - I'm sure they would help.
Martin - do you know about the Big Bad wedge fest

Total of 80 plus wedges in one place !
About 14 seacs attending - Jeff Stratham is also coming along (maybe with the Factory SEAC racer) and I'm also hoping the Chris Schirle (SEAC Creator) will be attending too.

Thanks for the greetings!
Afraid I won't be able to make it to BBWF - clashes with my summer holiday.
Sounds like it will be the biggest number of SEACs in one place ever. We managed to get together 10 SEACs, (all 420s), including Jeff's racer ten years ago. We went out in convoy and some poor bloke trimming his hedge cut off more then he'd planned as he looked over his shoulder and then nearly fell off his ladder...

My wife would kill me if I cancelled the holiday!
I've had the car for 11 years now. It was originally bought by an Arab who was in the UK on business, went to the Motor Show and ordered one there and then. A friend of my uncle ran in the car and arranged shipping out to Qatar. When the Arab got tired of it, the same chap bought it and shipped it back here. It then sat in his factory for a couple of years with just occasional trips to the golf club. I happened to mention to my uncle I was after a TVR, a quick introduction, 140mph demo and I bought it for a bargain price...

Yours is one of these then...Awesome photo. Such a shame you cant make BBWF and its almost exactly 10 years to the date....
go on you know it makes sense
Maybe there is a way of getting the SEAC there without you?
