F1 in Regent Street

Teams to parade cars prior to British GP

The Regent Street Association has confirmed that Formula 1 is coming to Regent Street.

Between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday 6th July, 2004 a number of cars will parade along the street. The cars expected to take part are:

  • B.A.R. Honda
  • BMW WilliamsF1
  • Ferrari
  • Jaguar
  • Jordan
  • Minardi
  • Team McLaren Mercedes and
  • Toyota

The event will necessitate the closing of roads in the surrounding area in addition to Regent Street on.  Regent Street will be closed to private vehicles (and taxis) from 10am to 1am and for buses from 3pm to 11pm.

The organisers advise that vehicle owners avoid the area and use alternative routes.  It is also advised that visitors, in particular children, should bring/wear ear plugs!

All proceeds from the event will go to the arts in Westminster.

Further details will be posted up on the event organisers’ website www.regentstreetonline.com .

Does anyone know for sure what the route will be? I have seen one suggestion that it will run from Oxford Circus down to Waterloo Place at the bottom end of Lower Regent Street and another that it will just be the bottom end of Regent Street from Austin Reed down to Piccadilly.

Confusion reigns in London as usual!

Might not be at full chat, but a chance to see/hear/smell F1 cars running at closer quarters than Bernie allows at at Stalag Luft Silverstone possibly and without paying him ££££££££ for the privilege?

What does

"All proceeds from the event will go to the arts in Westminster."

mean? Is it a chargeable thing?

Read the article, it is free.

Going with a few other PHers....as we're only down the road from there. Anyone else planning on going?

The route is pretty short, from near St James Palace up to Picadilly Circus, then up Regent St to just before Oxford Circus, then turn around and go back.

I'll probably walk up there after work (I'm only at Hyde-Park Corner).

I'll be there - current contract off Oxford Street so no excuse not to ?

I like the warning about ear plugs - very nice. Looking forward to the echoes of the buildings and confused Essex girls screwing up their piggy faces in surprise.

Worth it just for that !

Why is donuts in an F1 car ok but donuts in any other car not? Anyway, I was down Pall Mall and tbh the whole event was a bit sh*t - from communication, safety, ability to see anything (for many), ability to move anywhere.
