A total of over 7000 cars scanned 600+ offences committed including the usual ones i.e no tax insurance etc.Amongst some of the other offences were theft, illegal immigrants, signining on whilst working

Those involed were teams from the police, dvla and benefits office

This was the first of seven such operations in the area

Ok why only seven if it nicks so many? surely its cost effective

Sounds like ANPR works very well. Bit confused as to how the above crime is caught via ANPR though?

When I worked for HM Govt in the Benefits system the Benefits Fraud bods would often accompany police on operations where a large number of people were going to be questioned (dodgy building firms and the such like).

I once spent a morning taking calls from the fraud bods checking to see if there were live claims for the names given. I can't remember the exact number as this was a over a decade ago, but with around 200 names more than half, and maybe up to 60-70% had benefits claims while working.

All good stuff IMO.

Cheers

Paul
