I've been driving 13 years.

My current insurance company has me down for 9 years no claims - and have not raised this for the last 3 renewals.

I've just been quoted from a new company, who state their maximum no-claims allowance is 5 years. Their on-line system however allows you to enter any amount.

If I enter 13 years in to the quote for the above company I get a quote £55 less than if I enter 9 years.

How can this be, if 5 years is the maximum 'taken in to account' from the new company? How can I earn more than 9 if my current insurer won't increase it further?

Most companies have a maximum and don't bother to raise it beyond that. If you dig out your last last 5 renewal notices, each one giving you 9 yrs, then that'll be proof of 13 yrs for someone else. Or get a letter from insurers saying you've had 9 years since whatever date.

Some insurance companies appear to give discount for up to 13+ NCD which is a nightmare if you're currently with a company that has a max of 5 years NCD and you then have to show proof of 13+ NCD. I now will keep all renewals for a paper trail of NCD after losing a numbr of years NCD because I hadnt kept all the paper work.

Ah I see - makes sense. Thank you.
