Whining noise

Have put about 1200 miles on my Griff in the last few weeks giving a total of 8500miles.The car is a 95, 500 and it's fair to say that the previous and only owner looked after it v well.So far the car hasn't missed a beat but i am concerned about a whining sound I get in first at about 5-10mph.I am not sure if the noise disappears or the exhaust drowns it out after that ,but i would like to resolve it.Another thing I have a problem with is disengaging gears when the car is hot,when the car is cold it's perfect.As i say the car has only done 8.5k so I wouldn't have thought the diff or gear box is knackered.But then again I am not a mechanic.

he was a bit rusty, wasn't he!

your cars spent its entire life in the garage being polished. bound to be a bit stiff.

Hi Steve,

That could be a number of things, i would get it down to your local mechanic for a look.

Is it noisey on tick over or when you are moving.
Gear problem could be clutch problem??(leak?)

8.5K miles i thought mine hadnt done much 96 29000.

The low mileage can cause problems just as much as high mileage ones IMHO.

Car is only noisy when moving .I did think about the clutch have checked the fluid level and it full.Wondered if the fluid in the gearbox or clutch could be buggered.

Oh forgot to say the car only makes the noise under load in gear, when coasting noise has gone.so I assume the only place the problem could be is the gearbox.I assume they are synchroed in first?.

I used to have a whining noise in mine but I don't take her with me any more.

is it only noisy when the clutch is engaged? does it go when you depress the clutch?
If so it could be the clutch release bearing

It is only when the clutch is engaged but if I pull away in second I dont get the problem.I know it would seem there is a problem with first but is this likely.

possibly a bearing on gear shaft.

but change the gear oil and run it for a bit.

Funny enough when I saw this thread this was the first thing that sprang into my mind too
