Hi Guys,

Just in case anyone is interested in my progress......

I took the diff out last weekend farily easily, apart from about an hour to get the exhaust off, the interface between the Y piece and rear section was a pain in the proverbial.

Following the advice of my Griffith ownning friends I ended up taking it up to John Read and his team who are absolute stars and it is really nice to meet such honest and reliable engineers. When they looked at it they said I "Must have been rattling along like a Blackpool tram" Most of the bearings where nackered and I was really lucky to have not ruined the diff, so I guess a word of warning to take those little noises seriously. Diff is now back in the car, driveshafts and prop-shaft on.

Anyway, decided that while the diff was out I should do something about the speedo sensor and bought a Steve Heath unit, unfortunately beceause I have a GKN diff I am going to have to modify the standard mount and Steve is making up a special loom for me as the connectors on the speedo is different to the later cars.

Also seeing that I now have the dash out I am going to get it re-vaneered so am hoping to sort out where this week. I am also going to get the switch pannel done to match so looking forward to getting all of that back in as it should make a massive difference.

On a final note I tool the opportunity to try to get to some of the more inaccessable exhaust manifold bolts as my engine has started to sound like a "B" series with what sounds like tappet noise, glad I did as the drivers side rear ones were really loose, the lower rear one was a pig to get to and my right arm looks like it has been bitten by a dog with all of the scratches and bruises trying to do it up but its done now.

So all in all a pretty productive weekend, i'm a little scared that all the electrics are still going to work when I put the dash back together but it all needed doing.

Good work. Mr.Reid did my diff and seems to have done an excellent job also.

Re your exhaust manifold bolts, Nord lock washers are worth a look at if they keep coming loose.

Good luck with the speedo.

Glad you are sorted Mark. I will be putting my refurbished GKN diff back in my Griff this coming weekend (I have Friday and Monday off so a nice long weekend working on the Griff). I had Bernie of CTS refurb mine he was recommended and I must say has done a great job, John Reid supplied a crownwheel/pinion set for really reasonable money (he shipped them to Bernie for me). I got mine back over a week ago but am giving it a good paint in black enamel, also painting up and waxoiling the chassis whilst everything is out. Can't wait to get the Grif back on the road - I am missing that V8 roar!! Pete
