I wonder if anyone can please give some advice regarding my 05 Focus Mk2 (New shape)

The spring that pulls the clutch pedal fully up has snapped. I've been told by the local Ford dealer and an independent garage that it is a 3 hour job to remove the pedal box to replace the spring. I've looked on other forums though and seen that it is possible to do it yourself. This involves expanding the spring using a number of small coins spaced between the spring sections and then attaching it.

Now I can see clearly where the spring attaches to the pedal however the location for the other end is rather more unknown. I found what I thought was the location but when I attached the spring it was still loose and not applying the right force to fully pull the pedal back up. This location was on the pedal mounting plate that is attached to the bulkhead.

I wonder if anyone can therefore advise where the correct location point is so that I can have another attempte and hopefully manage to complete the job.

Thanks in advance

Someone has posted a photo (although not that clear) here:

Have to say its a right bugger of a job to do... my dealer gave me a price of £80 to do it, got them to put that in writing, then gave it to them to do!

Managed it in the end. And yes, it's a real sod of a job. I had to slightly modify the hook of the spring that fits on the bulkhead so that I could get it on.
I tried the pennies between the coils and that does get the end of the spring tantalisingly close to the clutch pedal. What I did then though was attach some steel wire around the end of the spring hook and then threaded that through the dash under the steering wheel. By using the amazing strength of my good ladies arms we managed to get enough expansion on the spring to flick it onto the hook. It took a few goes and of course most of the pennies fell out of the spring. Using the steel wire though enough expansion could be gained to get it to fit on the pedal.

A horrible job to do for the first time but I reckon I could now do it in under 20 minutes if I had to.
