its a side project for the guy that started/owens Motec if i have the story correct.
Race magazine down hear have run a few articles on it, one on the car itself and the other on taking it racing at Bathurst for an enduro. Which it won, against Porsches and Vipers ect.
Well designed car by all accounts, using proven quality components so not likely to be cheap but will be done right.

I am developing a Daytona Coupe replica which uses a BMW 3-series as a donor car.
The chassis is beautifully made using round tubing all around.
It will use the complete rear axle of the BMW in unmodified form.
Further it will use the front uprights, brakes all around, complete steering system (including power steering) and much more.
You can use the BMW engine +gearbox to build a car at a very nice budget or (later) go for a (BMW?) V8.
If you choose a donor car with aircon, you keep it nicely cool in the cockpit.
And of course an age related registration is very easy using so much from your donor.

Those videos on the Daytona Sports Cars website really gets me going for this car, nothing quite like seeing a car driven in anger to make you lust after one.
I really don't know what it is, I used to be a die hard sports car fan in the shape of things like Ferrari and Lamborghini but now, as I approach 30 I increasingly prefer something of this ilk and I don't know why.
T70, Cobra, Daytona, 917, Mk1 Escorts, E-Types are all starting to take my fancy which doesn't help when you are going to build a kit car! I keep chopping and changing my mind!
I'm off to the US so have been looking into the Factory Five 'Type 65' Coupe, significantly cheaper to buy but perhaps a bit more expensive to finish off nicely.

i am lucky enough to own a GD T70 and there are very few other makes i would consider but a daytona coupe is one, it would have to be alongside the T70 tho not as a swap!
have seen Nadine Geary's daytona and its beautiful, would love one, but equally my GD T70 gets a lot of attention and is absolutely fantastic to drive. its a proper track tool, quite a few owners are road car guys as well but mine is track only. you wont go wrong with either!

The GD T70 is just fabulous. I prefer it even to the Daytona, my only concern is about the weather protection... having owned a screenless Caterham for a few years, I'm now in an Elise and I am loving the screen and roof if I'm honest!
What's available for the T70 weather gear wise now?

pic attached of my t70. i dont drive mine on the road or in the wet much so cant comment on weather, they do a screen but not a hard top yet. if you keep moving its not so bad in the wet, soon as you stop its damp time! great in the dry summer months though!

I've just enquired with Gardner Douglas about weather gear on the T70.
A removable hardtop is 'nearly ready' and looks 'very special'. Judging from the looks of their other offerings, I think I trust their judgement!
Now, all I need to do is find someone who's willing to pay hard cash for one of my kidneys.

andy is a good bloke at GD, he's got some proper engineering nouse and wont release stuff that doesnt work or is poor quality, i need to see pictures of the new kit!
you are looking at about £35k self build with a nice spec tbh and £45+ and up for turnkey. You do get what you pay for in terms of chassis/quality/design and handling/performance. good spec Gt40s, ultimas and daytona coupes will all be that and more, i know a few people in the GT40 club and there are loads of nice cars hand built at £70k+

Engine can be the BMW straight 6, which has 192 hp (325i/328i) or 286 hp (M3) or if the budget allows use a V8.
This can be the BMW 4.0 300 hp V8 (out of a 540i) or an American V8 from GM or Ford.
Of course you can always go for the BMW donor engine and upgrade later.
We want to build this car which looks fantastic but costs a lot less then 35K to finish.
