Finally i am done with all the work touching up my chassis.

When i got the car it looked ok, but only really because there was about 5 layers of the evil waxoyl all over it (and everything else in the spray guns way it appeared).

I must have spent a minimum of 40 hours, quite possibly a lot more laying underneath the car using various de greasers cleaning off the waxoyl, which when its in every fking crevice isn't funny.

I started in the summer thinking it would take me one maybe two weekend hehe oh i was so wrong.

Anyway had a bit of time off work recently (sometimes recession is a good thing when you need to get stuff done on your car hehe) So i cleaned it all down again.

There was no real rust so to speak, just lots of stone chips which had been lashed over with wayoyl, the battery tray had lost quite a bit of paint, but luckily it was just surace rusted.

I finally decided on what i would do to renovate.

De grease with por15 cleaner
Prime with por15 metal ready
por15 coat x2
por15 tie coat primer
then por15 back top coat over the outriggers, battery tray and anywhere prone to chips, then hammerite smooth white mixed with black to match the chassis colour.

Now i had a problem here. The tie coat primer took at least a week to go off, it was just too cold for it i think. The por15 went hard as stone within a day, but not the tie coat frown so i had to leave it for aq week while i waited.
Then the por15 black chassis coat, that did the same as the primer, it never went rock hard either frown so i had to remove and of this stuff as you could see it would chip so easily.

I then had to order por15 black- which like an idiot i should have just used first, i could have done away with all the priming on the outriggers etc, bad move but never mind.

Today i got the rest of the chassis done, also gave the arches a quick coat of por15 black to tidy them up.

Theres still remnants of the waxoyl here and there, real thick too, so it looks like next weekend i'll be out again with a brush and de greaser (whoopeee).

End result though was worth it, looks awesome i think and the colour match was spot on.

On with the re trim now.

Great Job, I did the same thing on my Cerbera last year stripping all the wax oil off, so I could see the condition of the chassis.
I would also put some paint black or silver on the wheel hubs, between the break disc and the face plate with the studs on. It doesn't really get that rusty but looks a lot better with a clean set of spiders on.

Looks a great job! I plan to do mine over the winter or maybe the summer when its warmer on the floor. Did you remove anything other than the wheels i.e wishbones, arb etc or just paint very carefully? The pictures look like it was all stripped?

Amazing job!

There is no way I would have the patience for that. Plus it would get me divorced and I can't afford the alimony!

Thanks very much smile

Means a lot to know others appreciate the hard work, when i say its only taken 100 hours i am being generous there too hehe

I did dismantle some of it, the arb came off along with the tie bar thing which goes to the wishbone, i suppose in hindsight it would have been easier to remove the wishbones and do them while sitting down on a nice seat in the garage instead of lying like a cripple on the drive, i actually now want to change the bushes so it looks like this may actually happen hehe

On the finer detail areas i used artists brushes, about 10 of them lol. I have used a lot of paint brushes!

The engine bay isn't actually that bad in mine, i got power to give the engine an acid dip and spray it when it was rebuilt.
The inner wings are a bit tatty because they aren't painted, everything i try just tidys it a little bit, i dont think i'll ever get them looking new again.

I'm now retrimming the whole interior , alcantara on the dash, door cards, cage, stereo pod, dash tray, rear shelf bit, gaiters, rear panel for speakers, dash pod and roof.
Then seats, console and door pocket things in leather.
New carpets as well and its all in black with red stiching (i think) which gives me lots of options regarding colour if and when i get it resprayed.

Its looking awesome so far but a bit daunting seeing the whole inside in about 50 bits hehe

Hi Jasper,

Met you in the summer at the Rudie Mods Fun Day when the TOWIE girls wanted to be pictured in the car. Have a great picture of them although the wife isn't happy about this and my daughter now wishes she was there.

Back to the main Topic, I spent most of last winter crawling under the car with axle stands giving me just enough space to clean and repaint the chassis, I found the Detto or Mr Sheen wipes best for cleaning and degrease the under body parts, but don't tell her in doors as she keep wondering were the cleaning cloths go!

Last summer I repainted the inner arches and the rear panel as this appears to flake due to the heat of the exhausts and possibly the thin coat of paint applied at the factory. I have also painted the seals and brake disc centres this summer which makes it look better through the alloy wheel. I am now contemplating spraying under the bonnet black again as this now look dull in comparison to the rest of car.

I would like to replace the airbox with the ACT carbon fibre one and the air-conditioning cover, but this may have to wait until after Xmas.

If you need help or moral support I can pop round and show you what I have done so far?

Hi mate, yes a pic with them would have been nice but wouldn't have gone down too well here either hehe

I wouldn't mind having a look round yours, it was bloody mint! might give me a few ideas, would like to see what area's your planning on spraying under the bonnet as i said mines a bit tatty.

If you want send me an email and arrange to come round, i believe its only a few hundred meters anyway hehe

No problem, I will give you a call.

It is the removable bonnet that I would like to respray black as seen in the picture and the air-conditioning cover in the background. I think I read somewhere that Surface Design were selling these.

Well I have to say that looks spectacular. If this doesn't convince people to whip their cars up on axle stands and spend some time sorting their chassis out, nothing will. The only thing is... Will you ever bring yourself to drive it again!

Sorry, had to resurrect after seeing your other thread!!

Few questions if you can remember?!

Did you replace all the nuts and bolts? what were the common sizes? Where you couldnt use stainless - i.e. in the suspension / wishbone areas....what did you use?
I replaced a number of these last year and its upset me this year to see them furred up already....i need to get some paint on them too.

From what you have said above too, you would bother with tie coat again? just POR15 Black over the 2 coats of standard por 15?
