Random central locking on a Mondeo
Discussion
I have a dutiful 2001 Diesel mondeo zetec estate (not sure why the diesel is relevant but thought I would share).
It is a reliable honest car with almost no trouble until recently. The battery in my key fob died a couple of months ago and I haven't got round to obtaining a replacement so I use the old fashioned method of the key in the lock which was fine until last couple of weeks. The Central Locking now appears to be very random. Sometimes all doors will unlock, sometimes just the front, sometimes just the drivers. Sometimes it will randomly lock whilst I am driving along.
Sometimes it locks us all in and only I can get out. We cannot unlock the other doors from inside the car. The boot release on the dash ignores me and sometimes central locking will unlock the boot, sometimes not. If I have an estate car without an unusable boot, seems a bit pointless really.
Is it just the fuse? Seems a bit odd that it sometimes works and sometimes not. The car is kept on the drive alongside a garage and is driven about twice a week as I walk to the station. Any ideas?

Had exactly the same problem (in a Mondeo) waiting to catch the ferry to France in Portsmouth docks a couple of years ago - eventually solved by removing the battery from the key altogether - seems there was just enough power left to send a signal every now and then when it felt like it (despite it having stopped working when I pressed it months before!)
Good luck
