Who to keep? Sutil or Di Resta? Or both?

Following on from my post in the Brazil GP thread.

I don't get it? Sutil has been superb in the latter part of this season and is an excellent racer.

I would definitely keep Sutil.

What does everyone else think?

Personally I would keep DiResta and Sutil, whilst I do think Hulk is quick, Adrian has shown he is quick and DiResta is in his rookie season has been pretty impressive. Taking on another rookie could de-stabilise the team.

Hulkenberg isn't a rookie; he's had a season in a Williams and scored a pole position - more than Sutil or DiResta has managed.

I agree Sutil has driven well this season (as most previous seasons). However, DiResta has been close to him all season and the expectation would be for DiResta to do even better next season - ie. match/beat Sutil. I do think Hulkenberg is the real deal though, and potentially better than both Sutil/DiResta.

My heart would say keep DiResta and bring in Hulkenberg, my head would probably say either keep as they are or lose DiResta.

However, whoever they cut loose will surely find a seat elsewhere because they're all worthy. Question is, who would you rather 'give away' to your competitors - Sutil (known quantity, good but never going to be anything amazing), DiResta (impressive debut season and potential to be better than Sutil but as yet not proven) or Hulkenberg (very fast, has proven to be able to get into good situations whether by luck or judgement and then deliver and potentially something rather special)?

I wouldn't want to give Hulkenberg away...

Barrichello thrashed him last season, 47 points to 22.

That's significant in my book.

Based on this year, I would take Sutil. DiResta gets a lot of attention because he is Britiah, but I'm not sure his performances would merit getting ahead of Sutil if I was a team manager.

Keeping Di Resta, Sutil has been rumoured to be going to Williams (with the Renault engine next year), taking his Medion money with him.

Ps. Di Resta has completed more racing laps than anyone else this season.

Sutil had a great drive in Brazil, and 9th in the championship is good going. Di Resta had a good first season, so I'd look to keep them both.


Hülkenberg clearly has talent, but Force India have done well this season. I only see a change for a driver of equal standing as an upset.

I clicked Di Resta but I'd keep both, all Hulkenberg has done this year is smash up Paul's car a few times in practice and walk around with a smug grin for the last couple of races.

I'd stick with both of them, both have impressed me this year. Loan Hulk out to Team Lotus/Caterham for next year and see how he does v Kovalainen, i get the feeling Trulli's contract could (and should!) be torn up if a decent enough option was around.

I dont get the hype around the Hulk.

He was average last year; fluked a pole on drying track and was out classed by Rubens. Even Brundle was not a fan through most of last year.

Whoever is promoting him deserves a medal!

FI are on the up, or are at least stablising- Sutil and DiR.

He's been fast in Friday morning practice whenever he's had the chance this year. Admittedly, that's hard to judge but he's doing all he can to prove he's worth a seat.

Ok I've edited again, I think I would keep both and leave Hulkenberg on the sidelines .

I don't see anything about Hulkenberg that'd make me give him a chance over Sutil and Di Resta.

Barrichello thrashed Hulkenberg last year, he had his chance and got owned by an old (albeit fast) driver.

Hulkenberg = had his chance and blew it IMO.

Why so highly rated?

A lucky pole when he was on the track at the right time does not prove much.

- Sutil is undoubtedly single lap quick, FI should keep him without any doubt.

- Di Resta has done well in his first season back in single seaters. He has always had an excuse in the second half of the season though... and he will need to get closer to Sutil's one lap pace to stay in F1. He deserves one more season.

The Hulk will be unlucky not to get a drive, but frankly Pastor Maldonado has kept up with Rubens better than he did last year.

Given Sutil and Di Resta have driven in lower formulae with the likes of Vettel, Rosberg, Kubica, Hamilton and given how they performed, I don't rate Di Resta or Sutil that highly (esp the way LH utterly thrashed AS in Euro F1 2005). I can't. Although I am well aware that the translation to F1 can mean lower formulae performances can mean nothing. So on that basis and that they have both been doing pretty well against each other, I think both of them have earned the right to stay in F1, 2012 being a beat-your-teammate-or-be-off kinda season.

Or they should get rid of them both for "potential". Verne and Grosjean?
