PETROL TANK WINTER LAY UP
Discussion
Hello folks. Anybody out there with advice/opinion/experience with protecting petrol tanks and preserving petrol containing ethanol (Shell V-Power 5% included) with Frost 'Ethomix' and Millers 'Rust Free Tank',for a winter lay up?
Or is a tank full of V-Power sufficient as long as the filler cap is sealed to prevent ethanol evaporation and stop entry of humid air? Is this the fix?

I used to run the tank right down, thinking I did not want a tank of stale fuel in the spring, but the rust was horrendous. It used to come off in big flakes, and block the pre filter, and even jammed the pump up on a few occasions when small bits got through. I ended up using the Frost products to clean and seal the inside of the tank (It was a pour in sealant paint of some sort.) I still have a dirty great big magnet on the bottom of the tank to collect any loose flakes, but its not been an issue since. It would have been better not to let it happen in the first place however!

My tank is aluminium (96 500) I thought all Griffiths were. Not sure if Ethanol laced petrol is a problem for Ali?
Yes, Mine is also non magnetic. I presume aluminium. Will top up with Shell V-power and seal filler cap. Trust the carbon canister is not going to suck ethanol vapour.Gassing Station | Griffith | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
