Should I put this in a CV

I'm currently putting together my CV to apply for engineering summer placements.

Currently I'm the social secretary of a university sports club, I've been told that being on the committee of a uni club can help a lot on a CV, but I'm not so sure with my position.

I put a lot of work in organising events such as the Christmas meal and other socials, but I'm worried that a company will look at 'organising socials' as 'getting everyone wasted'. It's true that a lot of the socials involve drinking, but I don't encourage anything excessive and keep myself sober during the night as I'm responsible for the group on the social.

As I see it:
Pros- Position of responsibility, extra dimension as well as course, organisation skills.
Cons- Some people have a bad impression of university sports socials/ I could be seen as encouraging or being a part of drinking culture etc.

So, does it come across well or should I leave it out?

I have done a search but nothing came up, a quick Google says to put it in, but I'd like to know what an employer might think.

Stick it in.
In today's style of CV's I'm sure it's taken as a positive.

Back in the good old days, i.e. my era, it would generate more of a giggle than anything as we tend to be assessed by our peers rather than some "live off the effort of real contributors" HR type.

You're at Uni, and I'm guessing that you went there straight from school rather than worked for a few years before going. So in your case it's a good idea to make your CV as attractive as possible and one way you can do that is by highlighting whatever experience and responsibility you have or have taken on.

On your CV just say that you're the Secretary of <name of sport> club at university from <date> to <date>. Leave any details of what you did for the interview - but only if asked and even then just focus on the organisational & sports aspects rather than the p*ss-ups.

If you happened to be secretary of the skydiving/base jumping/dangerous sports society et al - best leave it off all together, eh?

You should certainly put it in. Dissect the role, it's responsibilities, the impact you made and any positive outcomes. It will be 100% useful to showcase some of your competencies. Good luck!

Maybe just highlight the "managing budgets" side of it and less of the "getting everyone wasted" side though!

I'll be sticking it in and emphasising organising etc.

72EuropaTC-The secretary and social sec are two different positions so I can't say I'm the secretary.Also it's a serious sports club that don't have a reputation for bad socials.

Alfa numeric-I don't get people wasted, that side of things usually arranges itself! On a typical social it's more making sure we're welcome in places (e.g if it's open mike night do they want a social bar crawl in?) and ensuring everyone is ok on the night, nothing's getting out of hand etc.
