Euro trip 2012/Best breakdown cover inc relay
Discussion
Title says it all. Who is best? What cost etc etc. I have cover with the A.A as an "extra" with my bank account in G.B. Will try and get a quote from them for European cover. Also i am insured with Henderson Taylor so ill give them a ring tomorrow, they may offer a Euro breakdown package. Specifically interested in relay back to blighty, wouldnt want a frenchie messing about with my TVR.
when i went to Europe in Sept, the AA quoted £69 for the single trip. I ended up adding euro cover to my insurance policy with ClassicLine which was £35 for the year, yes the year; and comparable cover. the devil really is in the detail and i would ensure that repatriation is included in any policy.
you'll see from my previous posts that I needed the cover and cannot fault the level of servcie (language barriers aside whilst talking to some of the agents)
i know who i'll be using in May.

I went for the add on tot he ferry crossing. £25 I think it was. I went through the small print carefully and couldn't see any reason why the S would be excluded. If anyone does spot an issue lat me know. The AA wanted over £70 and I already have GB cover with them. What a rip off for a 5 day trip.
Some of the insurers/breakdown people charge extra if the vehicle is over a certain age - not sure what it was but my S certainly came into that category when I went to Le Mans in it a few years ago. I currently have UK breakdown cover for the Griff with More Than; for 5k miles they want about £57 for 12 mths from memory and that gives me UK recovery (not home start) and also full european cover as well so not a bad deal (unless its changed from earlier in the year). I've not had to use them though but am not aware of any reason why they shouldn't be OK.
One point for people to note is that many of the breakdown providers say that you have to have the spare tyre that came with the vehicle as standard - ie. if the car had a spare originally they expect you to carry one - so no spare (sealant can?) can invalidate the cover with some - I did call one and ask and they said no sealant cans unless supplied as original with the car - More Than said OK and put it in writing to me when I explained about the need to carry luggage in a smallish boot that will really not hold the normal road wheel + tyre and luggage in the event of a puncture - they did however say that in the event of calling them out for a puncture to tell the call people that there is no spare otherwise they make assumptions that might not be correct about what sort of vehicle to send out to you. All makes sense I suppose.
As they say "there are other providers" and no I'm not connected with More Than, but the deal they did for me seemed fine so may be worth considering.

............... Not a problem for me.............. might even take my golf clubs................

..travelling with 20 other "experts" on the S range of cars...should be enough reassurance for you...
Being a technical numpty I do agree with you Andy but only for certain problems - expert knowledge will not be much use in the (hopefully unlikely) event of an accident that renders the car undriveable, remember we are talking about breakdown and recovery here
My cover is included in the insurance premium I pay to RH Specialist Cars and is provided by Equity Red Star. I've only needed to use them once when in Belgium and they were very good.
Elsewhere in PH I've seen ADAC from Germany recommeded for value & service.
TJC46 - I guessed you have a Chim but did check the detail - nice one!! The Griff boot isn't the biggest but is a bit bigger than an S and I certainly wouldn't fancy getting the wheel in it even with only a little luggage - it could be that you might need to take the infamous Chim golf clubs out to get the wheel in if you had some luggage?? (No doubt someone will come along soon and tell me that you can get the wheel in - ah well ...)
