Cooper S Convertible - which model??
Discussion
I am just about to start looking for a Cooper S Convertible but have heard lots about R56/56 but don't know what the difference is and, having done a quick search, don't seem to be able to find it explained anywhere.
So what are the differences, when did they change and what should I look for. I don't know if it makes any difference but it will have to be an auto as well (don't ask - it just has to be!).
Any help much appreciated.

Original convertibles - late 2004 until 2008 (ish) are supercharged - 2008 onwards are a completely different cars and are turbocharged.
The changeover from a supercharger to turbocharger was a couple of years earlier for the hatch.
There are various power outputs through the different gens (162 to about 210)
The later cars (turbos) have a much bigger central speedo - and the headlamps poke through holes in the bonnet, the orignals have a smaller central speedo and the headlamps lift with the bonnet.
One of the dedicated Mini forums is probably a good place to start searching.

on the subject of soft top minis - anyone know anywhere in the Watford area that can do repairs at reasonable cost - The roof went down and didnt come back last summer - replaced various switches and got it closed and locked but suspect cables are about to break as it makes a horrible noise(common problem!) so daren't press the button again.
its a 2004 cooper
Main Dealers are a no go area
Theres a place in Dorking who have latched onto the problem but quoted £750 approx. - be nice to get someone more local and cheaper
Thanks in advance
