Dear Sirs,
This situation has been doing my head in and i wonderd if anyone on here could provide the antodote or any assistance at all if possible.
A Chap i know and see on occasion wrote his car of some time ago. The car was in essence a financial write or with many of the mechanicals in good working order and in once peice but repair financially unviable. I am now trying to trace that car. I have kindly been provided with the relevant reg numbers and and claim ref details and know that the vehicle went to a Copart storage facility. I now also have the date it left there. However due to data protection they will not tell me where it went...... how the hell can i trace this?!? i NEED this car!
regards,
Jon

Think of it this way, would YOU like a random person contacting you out of the blue to ask about a car you bought? This situation has been doing my head in and i wonderd if anyone on here could provide the antodote or any assistance at all if possible.

You won't be able to trace it im afraid, forget the DVLA, they only ever "help" if you have a very good reason.
the car might well still be linked to the reg. My dads was after a write off, as we kept it. No reason someone would change the reg (unless the old one was a personal plate)?
send the reg details to dvla, tell them they parked on your private property and you want to send them a parking fine. I think the cost is about a fiver

Long Shot BUT....
If you know the chap see if he has an old MOT, well actually the most recent one you can get off him.
With this valuable information go to the DVLA MOT history checker and enter the MOT number and the reg details on this page:
http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-In...
This is the bit im uncertain on. This history will show you the name of the garage that done the MOT but if you put in an old certificate number im not sure if it will show you more recent MOTS's. If it doesnt stop reading here.
If it does try contacting the garage.
Again this is a loooooooong shot and will only work if the car has a current MOT in the hands of the new owner.
Aside to this would a freindly plod not be able to tell you the name of the insurance company it is currently insured with - then contact them.
Again have no idea if any of this information will be of any use at all.
good luck.
