What's the problem with vettel?

Why is there so much hatred towards vettel? Is it beacuse his german? Really don't understand it. IMO he comes across as genuinely nice chap in interviews. If Hamilton had the same season as he has then people will be calling him the greatest driver in the history of the sport (most do now!) Has there ever been a younger driver to dominate the sport in the way he has in the modern era of F1? Sorry if this subject has been done

Several factors.
And it's not one thing in the above list either, I think a combination of the above makes it quite galling when he wins. For me it's the finger, I really wish he wouldn't do that.
- Brits like an underdog, and vettel is not an underdog in any way due to his backing by RBR and the current car being built around him etc.
- He's German, and they tend to end up being Public Enemy No1 here whenever they are successful.
- People are worried about another Schumacher closing out the sport for another however many years
- The finger. I saw analysis saying it's because he shows the back of his hand when he does it, it's effectively flipping the bird every time he get poll or wins, which as we know is a lot. With a more open hand it would be a much less annoying gesture. Compare 'Peace, man' gesture to sticking two fingers up.
- The ruthless efficiency. Behaviour after Abu Dhabi, stright away looking at the data, spending time with the team on pitwall, shows all the other drivers up including the Brits

Yes, in interviews etc he is a really nice funny bloke and I like him. "Woohoo yes yes yes" gets a lot more airtime than a minute talking to Brundle or fake ginger moustaches though.

Hatred was probably the wrong word, but from some posts on here and speaking directly to people who watch formula 1 there's seems to be a sense of people praying for his downfall so to speak. Cheering at his mis-fortune. and I feel he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Might just be me seeing things different though! As a lad who is only 2 years my senior, I admire him for what he has achieved, he is no doubt a great driver.
The thing that gets me is the finger! Personally I find him a bit boring, you see the banter between either Hamilton, Webber or Button but Vettel just doesn't seem interested, it looks as if F1 is just a job to him but to the others it appears that they are doing something they love!

Agree the finger is annoying! However i just see it as him showing his passion in the same way a footballer celebrates after scoring a goal. If he's just performed the perfect lap or a great race then of course he's going to be happy. He has every right to scream in joy over the radio. I think people over analyse it. Just my opinion though.

That. It'd grate less if he wasn't winning quite so often though For every win. Every time.
I also subconsciously blame him for making the front end of a GP this year so boring. Lights go out, Vettel pulls out a few seconds, then circulates for an hour and a half before setting the fastest lap and waving the finger about. I respect what he's doing, but it's dull.

That sums up my sentimentality of Vettel pretty much perfectly! He comes accross as a rather nice and funny chap in interviews, but there is something about his pole and victory celebrations that I find massively irksome. Silly really as it shouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things.For every win. Every time.

Also just to add to the 'ring a ding ding' stuff, I'm sure he also screamed 'yabba dabba doo' at some point this season after yet another pole or win. That has to be even worse than Jenson's rendition of 'We Are the Champions' in 2009...
I don't hate him as such, he just gets on my nerves with his racing a bit. I don't know why.
I suspect it's because I believe a lot of his dominance is down to the car/team/newey, and that Webber is much older and not the favourite, but he's the one getting the credit.
I also don't like the way that DC thinks the sun shines out of his proverbial.

I would absolutely love that. I don't personally hate Vettel, I think he is a very talented driver who obviously has a lot of passion for succeeding. Right now, he comes across as a very well mannered guy, who has a good sense of humour and reacts well to the media and other drivers.Is that just because he's been so far ahead in the last couple of seasons though? I'd quite like to see him have an awful season next year, just to see how he copes under the pressure of regular defeat. I think given the circumstances, every driver would be happy, well mannered and pleasant to deal with, should they have such a blinding season.
Hamilton started out very much the same, and has now been criticised for having an average couple of seasons. Everyone is going to have their own opinions, but I think Vettel's success has probably just started to wear a bit thin. Like I said in another thread, I'm just hoping that McLaren leave themselves time for testing next year so they can start the season with a car that is more competitive and drivers who are confident with what they're driving.

Never seen any hatred personally. And frankly anyone who "hates" him really needs to think about their life.
- Seems a nice bloke (obviously relative as you need a tough inner core to get to be F1 champion)
- Exceptional talent that even rises above other exceptional talent he races against.
- Seems humble enough for an F1 driver - doesn't take himself too seriously (ginger moustache at the weekend a perfect example).
- Has a sense of humour.
