Finally I've got rid of my loan, which means I'm now going to have a few hundred quid at the end of every month to spend on "stuff". During the time I've been repaying the loan, the holidays have been a bit thin on the ground.

So now I'd like to do some weekend/short trips with Mrs Dibble. I've visited Amsterdam, Normandy, Gothenburg, Oslo and Stockholm myself previously, so I'm after some suggestions for 3-4 days with enough variety to keep us entertained.

So somewhere with a few decent bars, shops, restaurants, museums, galleries and "sights", preferably all "doable" on foot. Budget will be about £500-600 for both of us (I'm paying!).

Europe preferably, within 3-5 hours of the UK.

Barcelona has everything, went last February. Can't wait to go back. Beach, City, Food, Culture, Nightlife, Nou Camp (Even the Mrs will appreciate it!) Go to Parc Gaudi towards the top of town, stunning views over the entire city

Barca is wicked....

olympic park, motjuic, harbour eateries, cable car over city, decent outdoor cafe eating culture esp on the ramblas accomodation not overly expensive and not too pricey on eats either...

just do it!!

report back though :-)

Another vote for Barca.

Rome is worth considering.

As above, Barcelona or Rome. Lovely enough for me to appreciate even though I was on a Stag weekend each time biggrin

Left field suggestion - Brugges? Very, very picturesque.

I like Copenhagen as a city, plenty of things to do (Carlsbery museum can blank out an afternoon/evening!) but not really recommended for a cheap break. It is an expensive city.

I know it is rapidly becoming the standard answer to such questions, but Berlin is a great city to visit.

Otherwise try some of the Eastern European ones, Prague and Budapest while great cities are a bit mainstream these days, so try somewhere like Vilnius in Lithuania - beautiful little city in my opinion.

Seville, Krakow, Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome, Monaco (stay outside somewhere like Menton) and travel in, towns in northern France such as Beaune, Metz, Reims/Soissons area etc are all also lovely and driveable from Calais. Berlin, Munich, Prague as already mentioned.

Have fun smile
