Missing 2 Cylinders
Discussion
Tried running to car upto temp to see if the fans kicked in. Car sounded rough but that's nothing new as I haven't ran it on the road yet as I'm re-building, the body repairs are progressing it's time to sort out the engine etc.
Removed plugleads on cylinders 2 and 4 without any change in the engine note - so I've got a 6 cylinder. I have a spark but very week on every lead, used the bible and check ECU pins for injector soleniods - correct resistance on both banks. I ran the car at high revs for 5 mins and it looked as if the mixture was very rich (exhaust gas) - checked the ECU for temperature feedback resistance(engine thinking it was cold)and this was o.k. I had a look at the throttle potentiometer and this was under tension at rest - i.e.when I took it out I could hear it return to its home position - is this normal?????
I'm not sure if it's fuel or electrics,I have to start at the begining as the car has been stood for 2 years, new fuel filter etc. moving through coil and ignition amplifier - does anyone else have any ideas???

Didn't you say the engine had hydrauliced? (Except your spelling didn't make the word look French...). Maybe you've got no/low compression on 2 & 4?
Otherwise, at risk of stating the obvious, plugs/extenders/leads.
If it's been stood, the injectors might not be opening properly. If you run the engine with 2 & 4 disconnected, then take the spark plugs out, are they wet (with unburnt fuel)?

Is that wise? The first thing I would check is sparks. Are the rotor arm and dizzy cap OK? Try swapping HT leads to see if the lead is faulty.
Personally, I would eliminate one thing at a time. Sparks first, fuel then other possibilities. And I wouldn't run it for longer than necessary on 6 cylinders, if you have a cat, it'll be toasted.
Edited to add, OK no cat on a 4ltr but still not wise to run it on 6.

Cheers Griffter and IPAddis - after I slept on the problem I came up with a similar conclusion to IPAddis and I bought a new rotor arm and a distributor cap today (Land Rover parts)and will be fitting same later this evening. I had swapped over plug leads without success yesterday, I agree to start with the sparks first and the fuel later - I ran the car yesterday at revs to try and blow out the injectors due to the lay-up.
I had fitted new plugs a couple of weeks ago, but I will test for damp plugs as suggested. I am concerned that the spark was very weak, but I will move on to replacing coil and ignition amp later - not too bothered about these purchases as I could do with some spares if they prove not to fix it. Is there any earthing points I should look at?? in-respect to the ignition circuit??
I can test for compression at the weekend as I will have to borrow tester from friend - I'm keeping everything crossed that it isn't!!!!
Another thing, I get popping in the exhaust suggesting that un-burnt fuel is getting in there.
Anyway spark first.............thanks again.........this really is a USEFULL forum.

BURBLE, BURBLE, BURBLE ............MMMMMMM
It was the firing sequence, I had the leads 2 and 4 the wrong way around.......ran it up and the fans work ok as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Note: I couldn't get it up to temp yesterday on 3/4 of the engine.
This weekend oil and filter change - clean the stepper motor and butterfly valve and then on to the next problem.
Can't get the smile off my face - it sounds PURRRFECT (well better than it did!)
