Just put down my deposit today for an April delivery of a Cayenne Diesel. The most comfortable car i have ever sat in. I've had a couple of spine ops recently after an accident and the days of driving my Audi R8 are over and comfort is the order of the day as I drive many motorway miles. What do the people on PH reckon to Cayenne Wheels?

1. COMFORT - dealer said with 20 inch wheel, dont need air suspension for nice ride - I get the theory but not sure if i beleive this, however the saving on the wheels and suspension is worth £3k+ and then also i could get all weather tyres which is great as i live up north. But I feel the car looks more finished' with 21 inch wheels. Do you agree? Especially concerned about resale.

2. STYLE - If 21 inch, what would you choose, the turbo II or sportsedition? do turbo II look supercool or drug dealer?

Intrigued to hear peoples views on this. Thanks...

Try both. I'd consider Air Suspension a must have TBH.

Brilliant. I would prefer to walk than be seen in Cayenne.

IMO the new Cayenne looks pretty good on 19" or 20" wheels, and I think 'All Season' tyres are a NCO.

I don't know what benefits 21" wheels offer - they might look chunkier, but surely they are more costly, need more expensive tyres, probably faster tyre wear, rims more likely to get scuffed, more weight, harsher ride.......

The Air Suspension is a great option, but costly.

A sensible post.

Personally, I like big wheels (and I cannot lie), but Geneve makes some very valid points.

The 'harsh' ride is perhaps a factor, but everything is relative. The benefit is more direct steering, but then again, a decent ride is required to go quickly on UK roads.

I suggest you really need to try both.

Hmm - i know what you mean but a) i have never bought a Porsche or SUV before so this is new territory - i don't know the vibe which you may know instinctively and feel its your opinion when its not really, b) because what other people think is crucial to resale value and most importantly c) i have to consider ride and comfort and this is not a matter of taste but experience.

[Yawn] - What type of car-person would make such a sweeping statement and put a downer on someone who has just bought an expensive car.

Many thanks both - good points - i like the bigger wheels but my head says go for 20 inch. Problem with this car is it is mega popular. You cannot get one before June if you order now and the dealers simply dont have the variety in demonstrators to try different wheels/suspension

Driven both 20" & 21" the 21's had Air suspension, all I can do is it compare it to my current car (BMW X5) with 20's, and the Cayenne is in a different league in terms of ride/ handling quality.

I opted for the 21's (Turbo) wheel, my opinion is they suit the car the best, and easy to clean.

This is good to hear. Slightly OT but I am having huge problems with my 2006 so I guess they must have changed the seats quite radically. Never had any problems in any ither cars in 25 years or more but i get chronic neck, shoulder and middle back pain the moment I step into the Cayenne. I think the problem is that the seats are just flat, there isn't nearly enough all round support and the seat doesn't curve back inwards halfway up your spine.

Just ignore people like that. You get them wherever you go.

I was invited to a Cayenne lauch event at Millbrook and was amazed at how good it was both on and off road, and the fact it could do both so well (rather than doing both reasonably well, as I had expected)

On the handling circuit after a couple of laps, I pulled over and asked the Porsche driver to really show me what it could do - just astonishing.

Agreed, came across badly. Probably just the experience I have had with Cayenne drivers and my utter bemusement as to whay anyone would look at one of these against, for example an Audi Estate etc. I think that the fact you were considering 21" wheels, I simply thought you were stereotypical of the 'property developer' who has the same in my area. Your choice entirely.

Style-wise, I think smaller than 20" can look a bit lost in the massive arches.

Regarding comfort, having tried a 20" with air and 20" without air, the *with* gave a far superior ride.

Personally, bought 20" and air and am very happy with it.

my 2p
I've got a new KN (Hybrid)
21" wheels;
I also have a set of 18" wheels with snow & Ice tyres, which I've just fitted.
The ride on 18" is definitely better than 21"
All at the same settings on air suspension
now I can't say definitively that it's all down to rim size, as the 18" tyres are snow & Ice and therefore a different build
what I can say that on 21" rims & michelin Latitude sport, it can certainly hold it's own round tracks such as Spa & Donny, which I'm not sure it would do on the 18" winters !!
as for the previous posters back problem, yes I think the std seats are too flat also - which is why I went for the adaptive sports seats - best seats ever

same here, I was astonished by the new Cayenne on and offroad. I have the old shape Turbo and whilst it looks like a monkfish its comfortable, fast and handles incredibly well for such a big old bus. (mine is on 20inch wheels btw)

I have put together 4 pictures showing 4 wheels, 20 and 21 inch - what is the favourite A, B, C or D?
