Hi folks. I am now seriously considering a used DBS. Having toyed with the idea for a while it now feels time to let the 997 Turbo go and get into a DBS. My daughter has been bugging me to death to get a "roof off car" so it's likely to be a volante. I had a 996 turbo cab before the current 997 turbo and do miss the open top experience, so I guess I am letting my 7 year old have her wish.

I've never owned an Aston before so am not clued up on what comes as standard on a DBS volante versus the options that most people would expect it to have. As always, I have one eye on resale prospects when looking for a car so don't want to accidentally miss an option that will affect my available audience when it comes time to move on.

All thoughts appreciated.

Cheers,
Gixxer

Thanks George. Unless I am missing something it looks pretty well specced out the box and i'd probably only change the wheels to 10 spoke (which seems to be pretty common on used cars anyway).

These specs are for new cars of course and I'd be looking at a 2010 most likely. Do you know if the standard spec was the same in 2010?

Cheers,
Gixxer

There's not much in it apart from colours really, and they were of high spec since introduction.

Just make sure it's silver/black if you want to sell it easily, rather than the one Mako Blue one for sale (which is going to be mine in due course muwahaha).

Best option for all modern Aston's including the DBS is to buy this first:-

If you go for a used Volante, you will almost certainly have to have the automatic transmission - very few manual Volantes out there sadly frown

Shame, but what can you do...

I'd recommend the B&O stereo due to the very very cool tweeters that rise out of the dashboard.

Apart from that, the boot umbrella is essential...

That's not standard on a DBS Volante then? Is it common for folks to spec this?

Tongue, I think you'll find, firmly in cheek with regard to the umbrella wink

I have it in my Dee Bee Nine Volante and also my old Dee Bee Seven one, which is bigger smile

B&O is standard on DBS, as is the umbrella. B&O (and umbrella) is optional on the V12V, that's why there is some 'confusion'. The DBS is comprehensively equipped, the V12V not so much.

You sure that the original DBS Volante had the B&O? I know it's current spec, but I thought not on the originals. I drove a DBS coupe in April that definitely did not have the B&O.

You could buy this one, whilst it's still available? smile

Only on the very earliest coupes was the B&O not standard.

Wow. Finally, one comes up for sale, after I chuck £20k plus at my DB9 banghead

Can't raise the money in time, would have to pass on 3 or 4 of my other cars to riase the cash and not much is selling. If I could, it'd be mine frown

Yeah, I saw that, and Lancaster Cambridge is my local dealer, but I'm not keen on the red roof and interior and the miles are higher than most at that age. Both reflected in the price perhaps.

It's a lot of miles for a not very old car too; I think there are quite a few on here that are waiting for the DBS V to drop a tiny bit further wink

Just get the car, but don't pay anywhere near the £120k being quoted in that advert.

Find one that has many of the optional extras already on it - as John has said in the past, it's better if somebody else has paid the £5k for the B&O system.

As for volante.....the fact that gaylord George, le Yeti and a 7 year old girl are all recommending it to you would reaffirm my commitment to a coupe smile

More like the fact you don't want passers by to know you listen to Radio 4, or are balding and trying to hide it tongue out

As most have said, it's pretty loaded anyway but one option that's not listed, but worth having, is the exhaust switch available at the Works Service, Newport Pagnell. Fits onto the steering column for stealthy 'I'm home late' moments. http://site.astonmartin.com/eng/worksservice
