E36 323iSE - worth £6k??
Discussion
Looked at a nice tidy 98R E36 323iSE with 88k, in black. Immaculate inside and out, perfect alloys, climate, 6-CD. What's it worth? Sticker price is £6k.
Needs a pair of discs, and my friendly mechanic is going to diagnose a slight rattle under full power tomorrow.
Any advice appreciated...

I had a 96P which I sold 3 years ago for £6500 with similar mileage etc. so I'm thinking this is overpriced. would think more like 5k
Get the engine checked over thoroughly - mine had to have new block & pistons @ 60,000 due to nikasil cylinder linings wearing (symptoms high oil consumption & low compression, a common fault on the alloy 6 cyl engines) was done under warranty but the warranty would be shot by now (was told that the 3 yr 60k was extended to 4 yr 100k for this problem) - check if it has been done, that it has the cast Iron Cyl liners (this was the cure) if not leave it!
Also rear suspension linkages wear badly (expensive to fix) but otherwise good car.

Traded my 97R 328SE Touring in in May. 102k but full history, a few extras (climate, 16" wheels etc) and truly immaculate inside and out. Got £4900 for it.
I think all that generation are tarred with the Nikasil brush whether they have suffered or not.
This could be turned to advantage however. You can tell by looking at the engine block whether the engine has Nikasil liners or not, so if you can find one that hasn't you are likely to pick up a bargain. (Just don't expect to sell it on again for big money!)
