New years in London?

Anyone been to see the fireworks at London? Was thinking about doing it this new years. Fancy something different then going out on the piss. Any tips. Can imagine it being busy, whats the best spot to see them? Preferably somewhere not so busy or popular!

My place. On a sofa. In front of the 50". On the other hand, if you like being squashed by 100,000 tourists and piss-heads and not being able to see a thing, you could always get down to the Embankment and not be able to get home until 6am.

Friends did it a few years ago, never again they said.

Standing around outside with 1000's of people in the wet & cold for hours just to cheer for a few minutes by which time you're sobered up isn't my idea of fun.

Big No No from me. did this about 3-4 yrs ago and it was a fooking nightmare. 4hrs from the london eye to waterloo to get a train back home, never again. There was around 250.000 people.

Feel bad being negative but like the others said there isn't really anywhere you'll get nearby without 1 zillion people jostling for a good view and freezing your arse off. Unless you can get yourself on a boat or on a rooftop somewhere nearby I wouldn't bother. I lived near Tower Bridge for a few years and while you couldn't see the main fireworks I'd go down to the bridge if it wasn't raining as plenty of people saw in the new year there and there was a good atmosphere.
