STOLEN AUDI RS4 AVANT - Warwickshire
Discussion
My Audi RS4 Avant was stolen last night from a driveway in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
Number plate E12 WRD - Black Avant.
First time I have written on site but feel I need to share this to make other people aware of how car theives are taking new liabilities.
My wife and I were sitting in the living room watching TV at about 10.30pm last night, I heard a sound outside when I went to look I saw a man standing the other side of my front door. At first I thought it was someone about to knock the door, then I realised that he was holding our door handle up as to lock it from the outside. I ran to the door and managed to get the door open, when I opened it I soon realised I was being f*cked over. There were 3 men all hooded and masked up, they had obviously started to push the car as it was already half way down the drive. The 2 then jumped in the car leaving the other one standing in front of it protecting it from me. To be honest, I just froze, my brain was trying to compute what was happening I started shouting at which point my wife came to see what was happening, the guy then came back towards the house, not knowing if he was tooled up I grabbed my wife and shut the front door. We just grabbed our phones and called 999. Needless to say the car is gone albeit with naff all fuel in it!
The reason why I wanted to write this is to make people aware that these SCUMBAGS will stop at nothing to get what they want. I live on a fairly busy road, in what I thought was a nice area and it was 10.30pm not exactly the middle of the night!! It was obvious that we were still awake yet it didn't deter them from waltzing in casual as you like. Whilst in they stole my wife's purse for good measure. Bizarrely they did leave the laptop bag that was right by the door! It just goes to show these guys are only interested in 1 thing the car!
Having your car stolen is one thing actually watching it happen and being helpless to stop is another. It has now left myself and my wife with a mixture of anger, fear, vulnerability and regret that we left our front door unlocked!! - stupid i know, you just don't think/hope these things happen to you, sadly I now know they do!
I have read lots of blogs about tracking devices and where to leave your keys - my advice is this.
1. Tracking devices are obviously very helpful in finding your car once its been stolen. However, I actually never want to see the car again, the thought of having it back knowing that those scumbags have been in it just doesn't sit right. So my advice is make sure your HOUSE is more secure than your car.
2. Regarding hiding the keys or keeping them under your pillow etc - No thanks! The shear fact that these w@nkers have the audacity to do what they did when we were not just home, but awake, makes me realise that nothing was going to stop them taking the car. And the more you obstruct them the more likely you are to come to some serious harm. And in the grand scheme of things its not worth the risk - it is only a car that can be replaced!
So, sadly my ownership of an RS4 has ended for good!
Be safe.

That is truly awful.
When our much lesser mk4 R32 became a major target (two failed attempts to nick the wheels, £3.5k in damage) I started to worry about my wife using it. In the end we just decided to sell it.
Hateful decision but if you're somewhere that's likely to be targeted and you get "hit" it's sometimes best to just downgrade until you can get a secure garage/different house.
Now live somewhere completely remote and hard to get to so no more worries.

Sorry to hear this is seems the RSs are being targeted by scumbags nowadays.
I saw a black RS4 (new shape) go past me on the otherside of the road last week (Chobham Road - fast semi-winding a road in Chobham) at well, well over 100mph. It was at least two up and in pursuit some 30 seconds later was a Police Fiesta or Focus. If I were a criminal, I know the RS4 would be at the top of getaway car list.Sorry to hear this OP. I have seen a few bulletins recently about ATM thefts etc involving organised gangs and the overwhelming thing I noticed was that an RS4 was the car of choice for all of them. Perfect vehicle for such offences, loads of carrying capacity and very quick.
RS4 owners, seriously, think very carefully about security at the moment...

Shocking
RS4's have a terrible reputation for theft and that alone would make me think twice before purchasing.I just find it odd, though - they obviously came for your car, were they planning to smash the door down at 10:30pm knowing full well you were at home and awake? Can't have been casually trying door handles at that time fully masked up.
And out of interest, will you be ok to claim on the insurance as the door was open?
Our front door locks as soon as you close it, that is you need a key to open it. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in this day and age who would leave their front door open with a RS4 parked outside.
You are right about not wanting the car back, probably thrashed to within an inch of its life. As you say leave the keys out of sight but don't give them any reason to come looking for them.

I do feel bad for you, but I don't really understand how it happened. Aren't all front doors fitted with a Yale type lock that you can't open from the outside once the door is closed?
Nope - there are some that have just the lock under the handle mechanism.RS4s very popular with the scum, as said they're fast, but also if you're not a car person, it's just an Audi estate that doesn't stand out... so easy to blend in.
