Hi. Had my M5 Touring for a couple of weeks and can't help thinking about getting a slightly fruitier exhaust. I love the q car thing, especially as an estate, but fancy a bit more noise.
Supersprint seem to be one of the only companies offering a set up specifically for the touring. I really don't want it to be noisy in the car, especially on the motorway, just a bit wilder out the back. Also would like the option of going back to standard if necessary, so no cutting.
Again supersprint look a good option with the mid section with silencers being an option.
Anybody know what the noise level in and out of the car are like? And the difference between their normal and race backboxes?
Thanks
Jon

If its a full catback then you wont have to cut the OEM pipes but if you just go for backboxes you'll need to cut them. Phelix and i have H&S backboxes on out E61 M5's and its quite a nice Ferrari V12-like sound but without too much noise inside. The Supersprint systems are very good indeed and you can have them tuned to your needs but they are pricey. M5Mark has a full system on his E60 and it sounds epic.

I have just put the Supersprint race back boxes on my E60. I was on the fence for months worrying about making it to noisy, but it has only given a very slight increase of sound inside the car. The biggest change is a nice burble when you start and on low revs...cool
I nearly went for their sport boxes, but so glad I didn’t as I don’t think this would have made any noticeable difference and they are more expensive!!!
I could probably stand a further increase, so I may even go for the centre section...biggrin
Overall very pleased and would recommend to anyone wanting to let the V10 out and play without making it sound too silly...

Sounds like the race boxes are ideal, and cheaper! Perfect. Been in the dealer today for what was supposed to be just an oil change and has ended up with me coming home in a a Z4 and a minimum bill of £2.5k for new brakes all round etc! Fingers crossed they don't find anything else needing doing in the morning.
As for the exhaust they advised me not to go with the centre section as that would mean as of next year it would not pass the MOT.

Any chance you could post a video for comparison? Will you be going for the centre section with or without silencers?
Thanks

Hi Jon

Didn't take you long to post on here?? Re Brakes, I told you to go through the idrive menu!!! Let me know when you've decided which exhaust you're getting & we could try for a bit of discount for two.

Trust your tribe are well.

idrive read 10k left on front and 19k on rear. It was more of a corrosion issue than wear. Car must have been standing for sometime at some point. More worrying is a potential issue with the gearbox!

Don't know yet. A warning of possible gearbox problem came on then went first thing yesterday. Dealer haven't done full diagnosis yet.

Have you had any other warnings on the idrive? I had the red cog of death in December last year and it turned out to be the tailgate wiring loom that had broken and was draining the battery (had battery drain warning a few times before the red cog). Very common in all E61s regardless of spec.

Only had it 2 weeks. It was a red cog. Still don't know what it is. Won't know now until Monday.

Looks and sounds great. Where did you get it from? Not many places do the Touring version.
Thanks

I get the battery drain warning if the car sits for more than a few days. Tired battery or something else?

Your battery should last up to 3 weeks mate. Any sluggish gear changes when you first get going? If so that's a sign the current getting to the SMG pump is too low. Keep an eye on your tailgate and tailgate glass operation.

Just been reading some of your threads about clutch bearings etc. The last conversation on Friday with the dealer regarding the red cog issue was that they may have to remove the box as it may be the clutch. It has only done 19k and had a clutch under warranty at 17k. I have thought it is a bit jerky in 1st and 2nd, but thought this might be normal. Any thoughts?

If its only done 2k since the clutch refit I'd be surprised if it was the clutch that was at fault. It's not out of the question but its unlikely. The only thing that they could find really is that it was fitted wrong or badly. Are you using the same dealer that did the warranty work? Jerky changes may prove the poor job done and if its the case you should request a fresh clutch, fly, bearing and bush. Research the parts on my threads and ensure they grease it right, that might be the issue you have now as not all dealers are familiar with the special order grease that doesn't come with the clutch kit. Needs to be done or your bearing will stick.
Failing that I'd be looking at software or electrical.

Eddie.

They're always slow when the car's cold - just figured it was the car looking after itself as it warmed up. Am well familiar with the tailgate wiring problems though my late 04 535d was fine up to 88K when I sold it.
