Road bike Pedals
Discussion
My brother in law has recently got himself a road bike, Specialized Secteur, and is planning a few longer 80 mile rides next year. He has put the SPD pedals from his mountain bike on there for now but I was looking to organise some more road specific pedals for Christmas. He has mentioned Shimano R540 SPD-SL pedals, see these are around 25quid. Is there anything better for upto about 50 quid that anyone could recommend or would these be a good pedal to get.
Road bikes and SPD's aren't my thing so new ground for me.

Yep good well priced pedals check they come with cleats whoever you buy them from some do some dont, within your budget is the 105 set though which are much prettier

I use Time i-Clic racers. Not sure if they are quite under £50, but not far off.
Really nice pedals, easy in & out.
Look Keo's are worth looking at as well. I'll be switching to them in the spring, but only because of Garmin Vector - not because I think they will be any better than the Time's.

Cheers for the advice, between mum and us I think we have decided to go for the R540's and some new DHB R1 shoes as well.
thats the set up i used to have and i liked it. dont forget to buy the cleats as well (they screw into the shoes). i'm not sure if they are sold with the pedals or not.pablo said:

Hmm - not many people recommending Look?
I've just ordered some of the basic Look Keo's (£40) as they seemed to be much lighter than the others, 120g per pedal!
They are good also, to be fair as far as I know you can't get a bad set of road pedals just varying quality in fit and finish and what action you prefer from all the ones I have seen used or been reviewed.I've just ordered some of the basic Look Keo's (£40) as they seemed to be much lighter than the others, 120g per pedal!
