Bracknell traffic chaos tonight
Discussion
On the way to pick the Mrs up from Bracknell tonight took a call from a mate telling me of utter traffic chaos in Bracknell.
Apparently a serious accident closed Crowthorne Road between The Golden Retriever Roundabout and the South Hill Park roundabout. I am sure that this is not what the roundabouts are called, but the locals will know where I mean. Apparently the roads are now all re-opened. Not sure what happened but I am told there was a lot of emergency service activity and Waitrose truck(s) involved..

There was some Road Works there recently from the Nine Mile Ride leading onto the roundabout.
Reducing lanes down to one from original two
So no quick left turn anymore
Why the local HA have to f
k with this layout - who knows...
I'd like to know what's going on there too! The missus has been delayed coming back all week with huge queues down nine mile ride. What on earth would be the justification for a narrowing of a major roundabout (certainly in terms of managing local traffic flow, anyway)?Reducing lanes down to one from original two

Reducing the road width on the Nile Mile Road approach from A322
Why ???
If anything put in a dedicated left turn lane carried on up the carriage way for 100 metres.
The highway planners who instigated this work should be taken outside and shot.....
I have a feeling Road Planners are all Pedal PushersWhy ???

No idea what car drivers need

I can't see how making that junction narrower benefits anyone, including cyclists. People cycling down Nine Mile Ride in rush hour now face a very nervy 2 miles worth of filtering through an increasingly frustrated stream of car drivers - although to be fair, there's a perfectly good forest to cycle through right next to the road!No idea what car drivers need

Would be the same man who decided it would be a good idea to drop the speedlimit of the A329m from 70 mph to 50mph for that last stretch, and knocked 10mph going up the hill I should imagine... Whoever he is, he needs beating repeatadly before replacing the roads as they were, and if anything widened to accomadate cyclists better... Why ???

Small thread revival: As anyone who has been through their recently will have noticed, it has not been reduced down to one lane, but remodelled to the point where it's now quite awkward to turn left - it's a very strange approach angle now, I guess it has been designed to slow traffic down.
Or if you're very cynical: to catch someone out and let them embed themselves into the middle of the roundabout as an excuse to install traffic lights in all directions...

All this from a highway authority thats cutting back on road maintenance.
Utter ball locks - what a waste of money which could have been spent up keeping the current road surfaces and markings which IMO the latter are a far greater hazzard if not kept up to scratch.
Anyway would have been better to create a dedicated left turn lane with raised kurb
to allow traffic to filter in on the dual section....
