Often wondered why pro footballers at the highest level don't have all their foot and leg bones replaced by titanium ones. That would completely do away with the risk of them being laid off for weeks through injury.

Cost wouldn't be an issue. Any medical reasons against it?

LOL OK then. I'll tell you what, you can pay for my legs and feet to be done and I'll be the Guinea Pig.

You would die, very quickly, the bone contains marrow, it the marrow that creates new blood cells. You would be rather fked rather quickly without a fresh supply.

But bones are replaced by metal ones, are they not? Is there a marrow-determined limit to the number that can be replaced?

Wolverine still has his original bones - they're just encased in adamantium.

Could be wrong here but dont things like muscles/tendons have to attach to bones?

Pretty sure it would be hard to attach them to metal.

All reet, wish I'd never mentioned Wolverine now, forget about him, I reckon the big footy clubs should investigate this as a sensible precaution against injuries, given the money that's washing around in football these days. Plus the titanium-boned players could really go in for tackles 100% knowing they're not going to get injured. They'd be able to play out of their skins, as it were.

I reckon they should stop making boots out of diaphanous fairy leather, which is pretty much the issue.

Carbon fibre bones would be another possibility. They could be fitted with chips to show stresses etc, a potentially useful research project?

Not sure if serious

You are aware there are other types of injury than breaks?

Most footballers don't break bones.

How many shin bones have been broken in teh history of football? 3 maybe?

Ooh I think you're a bit off there, there's been loads of major leg breaks and loads of metatarsal breaks.
