Help! Who's been here in Mexico?
Discussion
Hi All,
We're booking our honeymoon and fancy going to Mexico. We've narrowed it down to two resorts and I'd like to know if any ph's have been to either and what their views were.
1. Secrets Maroma (30 mins south of Cancun)
2. The Royal in Playa del Carmen
What do you lot reckon would be best? All general Mexico advice welcome and views of other resorts we may not have heard of as well
Cheers!!

We've been to secrets maroma beach twice, once in Oct 2010 and again in Nov 2011. Afraid I cant compare to the Royal, but I doubt you'd go wrong with either. My impression from reading reviews was that beach was a bit better at Maroma but facilities a bit better at the Royal.
Was our first all inclusive experience, so were a bit sceptical at first. In summary, we had a great time. Rooms are great. Food is good, but not great. For dinner in particular we felt at times they were trying to be too fancy and not really succeeding. Breakfast/lunch very good. Lots of choice and all drinks branded (including a few premium brands eg grey goose). If you like a drink, we thought the holiday provided excellent value for money overall.
Staff excellent, cant really be faulted. Beach is very nice (and I understand one of the best in the area and a key selling point for the hotel). It can get a bit noisy around one of pools in the afternoon - not an issue for us though (we travelled as two couples, mid 20's). There were a range of ages there though, wouldnt describe it as a "party" place.
Any questions, would be happy to try to answer.
