The 800 SOTW thread got me thinking, TV Series from the past that had central characters with reconisable cars, what would they drive now.

Obviously Alan Partridge had his Lexus last time we saw him, would he have a new "Lexi" (Its the Japanese Mercedes) or something different ? I think perhaps an Audi Q7 as he had his new series and one would look great with the spray painting on.

What about the Professionals, now there is no Capri ?

Terry and June had a Princess, I cant think

Regan and Carter had a Granada, what would the drive in 2011 ?

Never understood how Gene Hunt as a copper in Life on Mars in his Cortina in the seventies managed to upgrade to an Audi Quattro in Ashes to Ashes, Coppers didnt have new Quattros, nice car but not great casting I think.

I seem to remember that he acquired it from a drug dealer and rather than letting it go to Scotland Yard for them to deal with it, he kept it in standard Gene Hunt, a bit corrupt, but not really harming anyone, style.

What would Cowley have then do we think? Mondeo ST? 3 series? Diesel or otherwise?

Hmm... dunno. 15 years ago, a Scorpio. They don't really make anything like that these days, do they?
True. Maybe something from the Jag camp then for Cowley. XJ?

agreed given the number of proactive roads policing units using them , Cowley would have a jag or a 7 series

Regan and Carter= either Insignias or Diesel 5-series / S60 as per current police practices ( given Lewis drives an insignia with hideaways, noise and kojack light)

Terry and June= pov spec 1.9 tdi A4 in resale grey

I'd like to think the Doyle would have a VXR8 and Bodie would have a 2 door Monaro. Clearly a change to GM would need to be made for RWD.

Not sure why but RWD suites them hehe

Avengers would be an MX5 instead of the TR6 I reckon or a Fiat Barchetta.

Ok, need some more programmes, Purdey from the new Avengers now that the TR7 is no longer available, Steed for that matter, have to be a an XFR I think for him.

Not a TV Programme but I am guessing John Shuttleworths Austin Ambassador (Y reg) is probably no more, what new(er) car would he be seranding ?

Minder, Arthur, still be a Jag, probably an old shape XJ, Terry (not the imposter who came later), Focus ST/RS perhaps.

Partridge is supposed to come across as a bit of a wker, but I don't think he's enough of a bellend to be driving a Q7.

What about Ed Straker in a remake of UFO? Maybe something like a CRZ Mugen or a Pagani Zonda?

Do what, on what Arfur payed him! his capri was only a 1.6.

Definitely an old E36 coupe for Terry.

Basil Fawlty's Austin 1100 Countryman: Yaris Verso? But would it ever be unreliable enough to deserve the "damn good thrashing" he gives it?

Partridge wouldn't be able to lower himself to a Skoda. I reckon VW Phaeton, complete with waffle about all the various features etc.
